Retrench your top management lor. Maybe from living as well. Or mention the names of who ordered you to fire them, attach their email, contact numbers and photos, including family. I do not think this warrants police protection for them. Police now busy protecting MPs. Still not enough. Or smuggling cigarettes.

No, dun get me wrong. In my working life, I uphold good values like honesty and integrity. I had to move on because I was offered better pay and I never back stab anybody - I speak the truth. But, the truth hurts, the truth hurts me because that truth that I uphold makes me a whistle blower. Imagine, you are in a soccer team, when you blew the whistle, 14 people armed themselves with baseball rackets coming after you !! 14 people include the coach and referee.

In the end, I give up working for others because of these good values. Even I am on my own today, some of my customers are scums. You will only discover it after few dealings and I try to avoid them. When they come back to me, they usually pay me a premium - a price that is much higher than my regularly customers. I give them that "take it or leave it" options which I do not intend to have them as my customer in the first place. I have to turn away one of a sizeable Hong Kong based restaurant group - hypocritical staff, made things difficult for you when payment is concerned. Please, I dun need those craps..... I maybe small but I dun need craps !! When I deliver my goods on time every time, I expect prompt payment. I dun expect to do extra chores just to get my payment.

What you say is sad but true. A lot of "good values" like honesty, being hardworking, consideration for others will only bring grief in the workplace. It's best to be a conniving and heartless backstabbing bastard. Something I realized but still trying hard to accomplish. :(

I have been dwelling over retrenchment exercise soon in my company, while my top management has demanded for staff names including overseas staff.<O:p</O:p

For weeks, I have been trying to propose some plan to retain all my staff but in vain.<O:p</O:p

I even proposed to cut staff salary (including my salary cut 7%) 5% - 7% according to their job designation for first quarter and subsequently to cut further another 2% - 4% for 2nd quarter if company unable to sustain from further financial lost.<O:p</O:p

I let 2 go, using my contact I manage to find a job for one of them.

I told my boss, the next time you want more names, I will put mine in.

Not many, only about 6.

1 grandma..... super old and quite sick. Gave me a few scares already. She is very naughty. She was hospitalized a few times and on several occasions, the doctors told me to prepare for the worst.... In the end, SHE MADE IT, discharged, and come home in one piece.

My parents..... aged.... still quarrel with each other and both continuously threaten to divorce each other. The reason that they did not do it because my granny is still around.... sigh.... these "kids"........

My stay-in girl friend. Refuse to work and always leech on me, dun want to marry me, dun want to have children, treat me super nice but stick to me like glue. she drives her own car (which I paid for all the expenses) to tail me at work, and offers to fetch me from pubs when I am having night out with friends. When she found out that some prospective wife material girl friends are meeting up with me, she would doll herself up sexily and did all lusty and disgusting actions to show the girls that I am hers !!! Damned !! FUCK !!!
Oh... about fuck... she lets me. I love her but I really want to have a proper family, kids, and all... I love to have children of my own !!

Lastly, 3 more persons... ME, MYSELF, and I.

After spending medical fees for 3 old folks and expenses for that leech, I have nothing much left for the last 3 persons.

Lucky draw is stupid because it will get you in trouble and casts doubts on your leadership abilities, especially when you let everyone know that they are being selected for retrenchment based on a lucky draw.

Your company still wants people who can contribute. You cannot justify your name list based on a draw of the luck. An arbitrary decision undermines your company because it may let good people go and poor workers stay.

Besides, unlucky employees will complain to the authorities and gets your company into trouble, meaning getting you into trouble.

Unless you are saying everybody is of identical ability and value to the company, which is impossible, and the lucky draw is a tie breaker. But this excuse will fail if there is some more objective criteria for retrenchment like the latest employee appraisals.

In singapore, Min of Manpower is not designed to help employee, they are working to help companies instead which is not something new or surprise at all.

That is why I am trying not to push too hard making my staff losing their rice bowl.

All my staff are equally good at their own strength but as for my company objective is to minimise financial burden.

Of course "Lucky Draw" is not a good option but if situation arise putting me in difficuities, I may propose to have "lucky draw" although need not necessarily a must.

I have 37 staff (includings: 1 Manager, 1 Assistant Manager, 1 Senior Executive - AsiaPac) altogether in Asia pacific. I'm requested to give 21 names list.

I'm sure if you were me, it's not going to be that easy to accomplish such task especially someone rice bowl.

I dont have anymore Foreign staff, 5 of them have already re-deployed outside singapore office until further notice.

Bo piang ar..... When I was retrenched, I also have to feed my family members. Did these "caring" employers bother ? No, they are more concern with their bottomline. Am I to be blamed for being retrenched ? YES, OF COURSE !!! I was meek and had too much thoughts for the company, fellow colleagues, and superiors. In the end, my superior retrenched me just to save himself for another few months.

As a matter of fact, the retrenchment did me more good than harm. I started on my own, I strengthen my character, I am no longer meek, and best of all, now I bite and kick arses !! What is the worst ? I have become :cool:... no, I mean COLD........


Good for you bro, not many can be fortunate like you, I think i should start to do something for myself in preparing for the worst to come.

You will be history if i have a staff like you, not only history, I will post in the forum about you to make sure everyone knows what kind of person you are, that you dont even deserve to get decent employment for life.

Correct, bosses (employee) only think of saving themselves but bosses who are investor only think of increasing their money instead of letting go some cash flow to save job while still affordable.

Sad but its true.

This time round its really very tough for me to decide which staff to go especially those who have family with children.

At times like this I wish I was in your company. I am almost near retirement age just 2or 3yrs more and have worked for over 20yrs in the same company. If I get retrneched I will most prob rent out my Phole and move to matland to stay and enjoy my retrenchment benifit, my pension and my monthly rent from my Phole :smile:

If cutting cost is the main objective, chopping the lower level of the hierarchy is of not much help. The chop has to be diagonally from the top to the bottom considering 60% retrenchment.
