Methinks the entry qualifications for the Presidential seat is set too high. It should be downgraded to accept more qualified professional people or heartlanders to enter into the Presidential election. We need people who really have passion for the job, but not just to act as an interim administrator. There should be more competition in the Presidential elections.

Basically, what I see the function of the President, he should not be required to have experience running a $100 million company. Because the role of the President, I haven't seen the role of the President who is exercising his rights as a $100 million company CEO with regards to our national reserves.

1. Surprise audits into our reserves - Not Done.
2. Call an independent board of enquiry to Investigate into the irregularities of the Temasek and GIC losses. - Not Done.
2. Kissing Babies - Done.
3. Attending functions - Done.
4. Stand in front of Parade Grounds during National Day - Done.

So from the above, job description a CEO of a $100 million company is not really necessary for the job of the President.

What say you?

IMO - anybody can become the President of Singapore. There should be no minimum qualification requirement, no $$ deposit.

I believe in basic democracy - one man, one vote, majority win.

If the peoples wanted to vote in a ex-convict who is currently fighting 20+ lawsuits over a CEO of a $100 million company. If the former win, the peoples must accept it. This is what the majority have chosen. This is democracy but the peoples must accept the president that they have chosen for the next term. Don't cry later.

If a totally don't know anything guy win the presidency. The Parliament should organize a team of professionals ready to advise the new guy.

u mean the ex con will pardon those on death row?

last i remembered, the elected President has power to grant pardon for inmates on death row.

the late President, Mr. Ong T. C. granted pardon to an inmate on death row and the inmate's family paid their respects to the late President during the wake.

our president needs very high qualifications of course. otherwise any tom dick and harry can become the president who is entrusted with the key to our national resevers...

more stringent qualifications soon...and finally nobody will qualify except god.

I got only an ITE certificate, can I become your president?

I can fit the bill : I can kiss babies, shake hands, wave at people, stand at attention when people salute me at National Day parade,,, and yes, I can attend wake.

Oh, I forgot, I excel at football during ITE course. The largest sum of money I had in my life was $200 which my uncle gave me when he struck first prize 4-D.

Please vote me to be your president - afterall you said anybody can become president.
