Grand Seiko - good? why?

Owned a few Seiko diver's watches all mechanical. Always have good impression for quality, reliability and toughness. Lately thinking of one or two Grands. No idea and never experienced this range of watches. Is it a good watch? What's so special compare to Swiss? Is it worth the money? It's not for collection I'll be using it.

people at watch forums all say Grand Seiko in terms of finish and quality and durability far far better than any Swiss watch at same or double the prize..........


but the designs very very old fashion..........


some more made in Japan...........a lot of radioactive contamination leh..........

Seiko Grand is like Japanese 's Rolex, domestic model they don't export, for whatever reason
god knows. But the price you pay can be as expensice as Rolexes. In term of value/ questionable
you can pay one for $8k but you want to sell away for $7k probably not takers, however if yours
is a Rolex example Green Sub LV bought sometime ago today u sell u make money!! Great demand
therefore price stays.; but Grand Seiko buy today sell tomorrow u lose a churn!

I sianz with Rolex leh also I buy watches never sell la just keep so resale value not important. In the past its only sold in Japan but now a days you can see it in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan etc

Actually it was the "old fashion" design that attracted me just like I hope one day I can own a car like this with mirrors at the bonnet sides

Try visiting Wayne Lee's site (just google for Wayne Lee Grand Seiko), and see if you like it

Personally if it's your first expensive watch (i.e. more than 1-2k), then I would get something else, like a used Rolex Explorer II (classy yet not too typical Rolex), or Omega Speedmaster (timeless classic, first watch on the moon).

the best about grand seiko is because of it design which look like vintage watch if anyone wanted to buy grand seiko imo go for those vintage grand seiko for collection .

grand seiko are only for japanese. The price is retard, better spend on swiss watches. It is for japanese who think japan is the best country in the world, their products are the best in the world, and the people are the chosen one and nippon is the motherland.

If you are not in the category above, skip GS. Swiss watch conquer the world, GS only japan - that is the bottom line.

However, I have spent at least $600 x 5 servicing the watch every few years so I haven't really made any money if I sell it.

If the Grand Seiko is more reliable and cheaper to service, it may be a better bet.

If all you're doing is collecting watches, the servicing charges may not apply.

what model is your rolex ? actucally you dont have to service so much as long as you always wear it ..do you put in automatic watch winder when you dont wear it ?

wearing the watch and putting on watch winder, wear out the jewels. The sooner you need to service the watch than leaving the watch not running when not using it.

not true ...this is the reason why we use auto watch winder

1. provide convenience and time savings to watch owners, and an ease of mind that your watch is ready to wear whenever you want, even if you do not wear the watch frequently

2 reduce an automatic watch wear and tear, in particular to the crown winding mechanism

3. enhance the mechanical life of the watches.

an automatic watch usually has sufficient power reserve to run for only a couple to a few days, depends on the brands and the movement it uses. if you do not wear it for a few days, the watch will stop and you need to reset it and rewind it again.

for watches with complicate functions like moon phase or perpetual calendars, to reset and to rewind it could be quite a tedious task that most watch owners would like to avoid. if you have more than one watch, to wind up and to reset each will not only be time consuming and tedious, but frequently resetting and rewinding the watch could cause certain harm to the mechanism of the watches, and could also hamper the long term mechanical life and functionality of the watch.
