Imagine a bill of $100. You need to add 10% cess: bill = 100 + (100 x 0.1) = $110. Then you need to add 7% GST, which total up the bill to $110 x 1.07 = $117.7. You pay an extra $17.7 which is 17.7% more than the original bill. If you have a bill of $300 (typical Chinese restaurant), you taxes = $53.1 or 17.7% of your $300. That's a lot if you ask me. I would stay at home and cook more often than going to restaurants.
A 2% cut will save a lot of people some pennies, which add up to a substantial sum. So I think I'll advocate to reduce the GST to 5% for 1 or 2 yrs.
Its crap where the GST is concerned, its too broad based to really help the poor....cos practically every time you spent you have to pay the GST whether it is shown or hidden...lots of retailers say they don't charge GST but lets face it...7% off one profit is actually quite a huge sum...so they just lump it in..if they are really serious about taxing the rich then they should only impose the GST on luxury items...
:oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo: FUCK YOU PAP SCUMS

over my dead body.gst will increase to further help the poor and the needy. look at all the restaurants - they're always packed!!! can't even smell a seat left. go to the 5 star hotel, the coffee houses are packed. the $80 per head buffet is over-booked! singaporeans are bloody rich...look at those going overseas and having a great time! singaporeans are bloody cash rich!
My Familee are contrarians. We buy HIGH, sell LOW. Democracy is BAD, dictatorship GOOD! Foreigners are TALENTS, Citizens TRASH. We have LOTSA $ to squander in foreign economies, NOT 1 CENT to pump prime local economy. We HIKE tax in good times, raise it even MORE in bad times. We're the BEST PAID in the world cos we can ensure the Peasants are LOWLY PAID. We're UNIQUELY SINGAPOO! *hee*hee*
If you want to go into process of calculating the GST%, it more than 7%. Take a cup of coffee for example. In 1994, Sugar up 3%, coffee powder 3%, milk 3%, and water 3%. End result coffee raised 10cents from 60c to 70c which is 16.6% increase.
And from GST 3% to 7%, we now see coffee at 90c from 70c which is 28.5%. It's not just 4% and 28% in total!
And if you look from 1994 to 2008, just 14 years we see 50% increase!
Taxing the rich to help the poor? It's good to be kidding. The rich got their own biz to "absorb" the GST% and pass it to the poor.
The poor can only cut the spending as cannot afford to spend. The only way to be able to is to follow the rich, which is to create your own biz. And that's another problem.
we must all eat at hawker centres only...and neighbourhood kopitiams...no need to go high class places...let the rich help the poor with their 10% and 7%...they're doing a good deed.the gahment is doing a good deed.
but to add 7% gst to the hospital bills is obscene and sinful....
Sad to say that during this times, the government would prefer to survive with more fund from GST than lowering...don't be surprised if they decided to raise them again later maybe after the snap election...sigh!
PAP dogs in panic. I must really making real headway in exposing their weaknesses and crime. Fellow monikers who believe in a better Singapore, step up the exposure of the crimes and folly of the establishment.
Singaporean government encouraged and sanctioned foreigners traders into Singapore to squander's peasants hard earn money .So singaporeans will have to work till they drop !
