A major train breakdown affected thousands of commuters islandwide today morning (April 17). Commuters at multiple stations were delayed by up to 45 minutes due to the fault.

Said STOMPer Oceanfish:

"I was amused by SMRT for putting no effort to prevent train disruption, especially during peak hours.

"I boarded the train at Pioneer to head to Buona Vista.

"The whole journey took 1 hour and 15 minutes as there was at least three occasions when the train came to halt at Lakeside and Chinese Garden.comes.

"It eventually came to complete stop at Jurong East for 45 minutes.

"The final call for passengers to leave the train at 8am by the train operator was totally rude and unprofessional.

"I was disgusted by SMRT. "

Pictures from today's breakdown were provided by STOMPers Oceanfish, Why like tat, JT, Sharon, Ad and Aaron.

SINGAPORE: A track fault caused train services to be suspended along part of the Circle Line during the morning peak-hour on Wednesday.

There was no train service between Bishan and one-north stations due to the issue as of 9.55am, SMRT said.

SMRT, the operator of the Circle Line, first reported the track fault to the public at 8.07am Wednesday morning through Twitter.

One affected commuter who called MediaCorp News said the train he was on stopped at 7.40am just after Kent Ridge Station for about 25 minutes. The train was heading to one-north station.

Free bus bridging services between Bishan and one-north stations have been provided, but commuters were advised by SMRT to "make alternate travel plans where possible".

SMRT is still working to restore train service.

Passengers who were not able to continue with their journey because of the disruption, or had to exit an SMRT train station without taking a trip but had their fares deducted, can get a refund at the Passenger Service Centre in any of SMRT's 83 stations in the next 14 days, SMRT said.

hitandrun_victim_spent_10k_on_taiwan_wedding_shoot-thumbnail.jpg

He spent $10,000 on a trip to Taiwan for their wedding photo shoot, but on the morning of the day the photos were ready for collection, Keith Kok Chee Wah, 31, met with a fatal hit-and-run accident.

The couple had flown to Taiwan just last month for a wedding photo shoot as it was his fiancee's wish to do so. Keith paid close to $10,000 for the six-day trip, including the cost of the photos, his fiancee, Geraldine Lim, 25, told the The New Paper.

They had even fixed their wedding date for March 30 2013, picked the bridal boutique and decided on a honeymoon in Europe. The couple had also managed to ballot successfully for a four-room HDB flat at Corporation Road.

However, the oil tanker driver was riding his new scooter to work when he was hit by a lorry and a trailer at about 7.30am on Apr 12. He was believed to have been hit by the lorry before being run over by the trailer. Keith was pronounced dead on the spot at 8.20am.

Geraldine said her doting fiance bought the scooter as he wanted her to use his car to drive to her workplace. He had asked her permission to buy the scooter and she had agreed as he was afraid he would be late for work taking public transport as it "had become more unreliable after the recent breakdowns"

Bus bridging at bishan mrt. Several bridging buses waiting but commuters all packing into one bus. No clear direction or queues. Even mrt service staff seem to be a little confused

TODAY reporter at Marymount says there's 3 bridging buses which can't take on commuters because drivers 'haven't been told where to go'. Frustrated members of the public turn to hailing cabs instead.
