SINGAPORE: Some students and foreign workers got together early Friday morning for a friendly game of cricket at the Anglo-Chinese School (Independent).

The event, jointly organised by the school and a non-profit organisation, aims to foster community bonding through sports.

Seven students and 40 foreign workers from Bangladesh took to the fields and indulged in a good old fashioned game of cricket.

The students said the interaction was an eye-opening experience.

Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) student Abhinav said: "From what I know, their working conditions aren't that great, and just to provide some sort of entertainment or enjoyment for them to bond together as a group, it's good for us."

For many of the workers, it was a welcome break as they took part in one of their country's most popular sports.

Foreign worker Juwel Mahmab said: "Six years I stay in Singapore, before I haven't played cricket. Now I play cricket, so now I am happy."

But the activity was not just all fun and games.

HealthServe, a community clinic which provides migrant workers with counselling services and subsidised medical treatment, held talks to increase the workers' awareness of healthcare issues.

HealthServe volunteer doctor Tan Lai Yong said: "We want to use sports, we want to use the games day to talk about care of the back. Many of them carry heavy loads, and also got problems of smoking."

HealthServe said it is looking to collaborate with other schools and organisations to run more of such programmes.

Because they will do anything and try very hard to fit in their sinkie PAP agenda so that will make them "look" correct and wise in their policy and decision.

That stupid game should be banned from the face of this earth!

I could never understand that game. The British did a nice con job to persuade these Indians to enjoy this sport :D

whats your favourite then ah boss? ....tic tac toe?.....tiddleywinks? ...snakes and ladders? :o

Road cycling. It's one of the few sports which requires BOTH endurance AND strategy. The strongest guy won't win unless he's also one of the smartest. It's a chess game on wheels with pawns playing a crucial role.

I told you. What did I say?

Cricket will be the next officially adopted 'national sport', after table tennis.

Expect to see youth academies, and international competitions... live on national tv.

Politicians know sports bond communities, and these sports pander to the new demographic reality.

Watch the cricket game carefully and you will realize that the pitcher will use the ball and rub it on his dick before throwing the ball.
These folks are masturbating in public.

wahh that sport is almost as tough as mine which is ......BedMinton......it requires endurance, strategy and positioning.

Not much expensive equipment needed for this game thats why i like it.
