Hougang resident told by HDB to seek Desmond Choo for help to repair leaking toilet pipe.

One Hougang resident contacted HDB to repair a leaking toilet pipe only to be told that he has to go through Hougang grassroots adviser Desmond Choo first to request for the subsidy!
According to Julius Yang, an officer for HDB who came to his place to check the pipe told his mother to seek Mr Choo’s assistance to help write a letter to HDB to request for the subsidy of $500:
“Today, an officer from HDB came to my place and told my mom that HDB will foot 50% of the repair cost on one condition: that she meets Desmond Choo of the PAP and get him to write a letter to HDB to request for this subsidy so that my mom will enjoy the savings of about $500. When asked why, the officer simply replied, ‘it’s always been done this way.’”
Julius Yang was peeved at the ‘method’ employed by the PAP to win the support of Hougang residents:
“If this is the way PAP is trying to buy the votes of the Hougang electorate, it’s a stupid and disgusting way of doing it. HDB is a government entity created to serve the people who live in public housing, and not a tool for the PAP to use against the citizens of Singapore. This is wrong on so many levels.”
