Seven of the 12 youths accused of killing a 19-year-old polytechnic student at Downtown East entertainment hub in 2010 have had their murder charges reduced on Monday, which means none of the dozen will face a death sentence.

According to The Straits Times, five will be tried for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and two for rioting with a dangerous weapon.

The five to be tried for the former charge are Ho Wui Ming, 22; Chen Wei Zhen, 21; Edward Tay Wei Loong, 20; Louis Tong Qing Yao, 17; and Stillwell Ong Keat Pin, 20. The two who will face the rioting charge are Tang Jia Min, 23, and Ho Wei Quan, 19.

No reason was given for the reduction, the same paper reported.

Earlier, charges against five others had also been reduced.

21-year-old Jason Chew Wei Beng was prosecuted on 23 February for rioting and for voluntarily causing hurt to Darren Ng Wei Jie.

Last September, Chong Rui Hong and Ng Wei Lun, 19, Puay De Feng, 20, and Jason Chew Wei Beng, 21, also saw their murder charges reduced to that of rioting.

All 12 youths were allegedly involved in a bloody incident on the evening of 30 October 2010, which led to the death of Ng.

Ng died from multiple stab wounds and other injuries sustained that night.

Instead, all we have on local tv are those retarded makan, travel, home decor shows.

wtf never hang can hang drug mule but not murders ??? where is justice?????

The only possible reason I can think of why they were not hang is becos the judge is afraid the gang will take revenge on him/her

In many cases, murder charges are reduced because it cannot be proved who inflicted the blow that killed the victim. Lawyer will say:"Yes, my client landed 2 stab wounds on him, but only on the shoulder." Since there is no CCTV evidence, who actually landed the death blow?

So all get their charges reduced, because the prosecution needs to prove beyond reasonable doubt the actions and identity of the one who actually gave the death blow..... which is impossible....

THe guy that got murdered was a gang member too and his gang member frens were seen harrassing some photographers.

Ah hahahahaha ! (LOL) Luckily, he wasn't named stillborn instead. Weird parents and now weird child.

The names for horses are also weird too. Maybe, parents should consult horse racing manual for inspiration.

They are all so young. A few years in prison is enough. Why destroy their lives.

{{{Scenario: Friends and family visit Stillwell Ong in jail.}}}

Friends/family: Hi Ong. How's jail life? Are you still well?
Ong: ...

(next day)
Warden: Oh no! Stillwell Ong has commited suicide! His body is lying very still at the bottom of the stairwell!

For cases like this, a jury system is better than a single judge. But gangs in Singapore aren't that vicious, normally when dealt with by an authoritative figure, balls all shrink.

Cheers!

What they need to do is to name the parents of all the assailants.
They might even want to arrange a meeting between them and the victim's parents.
90 degree bow from all.
