Christmas Island's famous red crabs started their annual migration this week - much earlier than before.

For those that have never witnessed this event, you would be forgiven for thinking that it is more like something out of a horror movie than real life... more than 150 million crabs travel more than three miles through city streets, shops and schools. Check out the video to get a feel of what it might be like in real life. (feeling hungry yet?)

At Australia's request, the United Kingdom transferred sovereignty to Australia; in 1957, the Australian government paid the government of Singapore £2.9 million in compensation, a figure based mainly on an estimated value of the phosphate forgone by Singapore.

Luckily they are not spiders, otherwise nobody dare to sleep at night.

With the current price of chilli crabs ($30 per kg?) at S'pore ZHI CHA stalls, there is a goldmine there at Christmas island:)

I don't think those crabs can be eaten. If can they would have been extint long long time ago :)

The coconut crabs over there are hailed as a gourmet delight by polynesians.
