Worker throws mountain bike at supervisor after dispute

Unhappy that his supervisor had caught him for not wearing a safety helmet at the work site, construction worker Sathanantham Suresh decided to take matters into his own hands.
After his shift on June 13, the 32-year-old Indian national confronted the supervisor, Mr Miah Rajib, 23, and attacked him by throwing a bicycle at his head.
Mr Miah suffered facial injuries and a fractured finger.
Yesterday, Sathanantham was sentenced to six months' jail for voluntarily causing hurt.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Esther Tang told the court that Sathanantham was the aggressor who had waited for Mr Miah outside the construction site "with intention to confront him".
A dispute had first arisen in the afternoon at the 17, Jervois Hill construction site. After finishing his shift at 7pm, Sathanantham consumed some alcoholic drinks while waiting for Mr Miah.
At about 7.55pm, he confronted Mr Miah outside the construction site then attacked him with his hands.
He then swung his mountain bike at Mr Miah's head. Mr Miah called the police and Sathanantham fled on his bicycle.
For voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, he could have been jailed for up to seven years, or caned, or fined, or any combination of these punishments.
