A woman has been killed after she was struck by a car in eastern China minutes after she had messaged on social media that she and her husband had a flat tyre at the side of a busy road and were trying to fix it, according to a media report.

The couple’s car broke down in Hangzhou in Zhejiang province on Monday, the news website Zjol.com reported.

She messaged on social media: “What bad luck, the car got a flat tyre on the road. Danger!”

Her husband tried to fix the tyre after putting up warning signs around the car, but the woman was hit by a BMW after she picked up a sign that had fallen over, the report said.

Her husband had warned her to stay inside the vehicle.

Police said the woman, whose full name was not given, and her husband were both at fault for attempting to mend the tyre on their own, the report said.

The husband wept at the police station when he read the message his wife had sent before her death, according to the article.
