Woman denies abusing maid

A 68-YEAR-OLD woman claimed trial on Wednesday to abusing her Indonesian maid by punching and hitting her. Phoebe De Silva is said to have punched Ms Maryati, 24, several times, hit her head with a frying pan and her left cheek and arms with wooden sticks at her home in Jalan Bahasa on Feb 7. She was not represented in court. Her case has been fixed for a pre-trial conference on Oct 11. If convicted she faces a jail term of up to three years and/or a fine of up to $7,500.
