This GDP has really been the biggest fraud of the PAP for the last few decades and yet no one seems too question it. For decades the public housing scheme has been set up as part of the GDP. For an export oriented economy, all HDB related and SLA related transactions have to be taken out of the GDP calculations. The PAP has for years been building flats by the tens of thousands a year to manipulate and boost the GDP numbers. Up until today, we have over 1 million HDB flats for a population of only 3.5 million Singaporeans and we are still building them, for what? Because they add to the GDP numbers. It was only when the HDB flats reached a saturation number vis a vis the availability of the number of Sinkies to occupy them that they switched to the mass importation of FTs as an alternate boost to the GDP.

The public housing scheme involves taking money from the citizens CPF accounts or their own personal funds (which are already in existence), and then sending this money to "purchase" flats which are not owned by them. The numbers of actual sinkies involved in the large economic enterprise (comprising $billions every year) is actually neglible. How many sinkies do you see actually work on the construction of these flats? MAybe some of the professionals like engineers or architects. But the vast majority of workers, supervisors, etc are not sinkies. The money they earn does not stay in the singapore economy, but instead is repatriated back to their homelands. Few singaporeans are directly employed in this activity, and even some of the bidding companies are not even Singaporean anymore. In the 70s and 80s when many MNCs set up factories here and sinkies actually worked in those factories and earned a living, the goods they produced were exported to other countries and the value added income was actually produced and stayed in singapore and was taxed in singapore. Of course the MNC send the profits back to the parent company, but many sinkies were involved in this economic activity and this activity was rightly counted as part of the GDP.

In order for an economic activity to be counted as part of the GDP, it has to have a economic impact on the citizens. The impact of HDB housing is clearly a negative impact to the citizens. Forcing citizens by Taking money out of their account, using it to produce flats in which very few sinkies are involved in producing, selling it back to them at an inflated price and putting them in a debt situation to do so, is not positive economic activity. All stats related to public housing should be taken out of the GDP stats, and excluded from the GDP calculations.

Can someone please provide and explain why the economy only created 100 local jobs but the unempolyment rate remains at around 3%?

I don't accept the BS explanation put forward by Zorro as labour should be measured by the total available workforce in the economy. This includes local and foreign labour (basically anyone who is contributing to GDP).

The labour maket grew by 96,000 in 2014, this represents a increase of over 1000% over 2015.

Zorro claims the difference is partly attributably to part-timers working in retail and maybe F&B industry leaving the labour market and becoming intentionally unemployed and also local women and older workers are apparently contributing to full employment and their services become scarce.

What's his logic or is he really talking BS or do the MoM figures really look that flawed?
