Why have our state-controlled media stooped so low???

A few weeks ago Carnal News Asia ran a documentary on China's health industry. It was titled "China's ailing health industry". The industry was portrayed in a very negative light.

Tonight, Carnal News Asia ran a documentary on Philippines. It was called "Philippines cam girls". It gave a very bad impression of Filipinos.

I wonder why our state-controlled media cannot play the role of a good Asean neighbour. Why our SCM don't run documentaries on Singapore's poor people struggling to make ends meet? how Singaporeans are fed up with rising transport costs and very frequent train breakdowns, how MPs and civil serpents are embroiled in sex scandals, why our Minister Yacob tries his best to rein in freedom of expression on the internet, etc...

CNA markets itself as the news station with an Asian perspective. With news correspondents across Asia, it is only to be expected that they would do documentaries on those places.

Singapore? Everything is awesome in Singapore, what's there to report?

It's not just the state-controlled media. Academic institutions in Spore will churn out very negative research on our neighbours, especially M'sia, but when Spore is covered it is cast as a model to be emulated by others.

Not sure if the term state controlled is appropriate if you think it does not serve the state's interests.... which includes friendly relations with neighbours.....

Everything is prioritised. Securing the domestic political ground, even if putting neighbours in a poor light, takes precedence over everything else.

There are not many ways to highlight PAP "successes", other than showing how badly other governments are running their countries.

Actually, it is the people who make the PAP govt successful, not the other way round. But the media cannot show that.

This is the key and has proven to be a very reliable tactic for PAP electoral success, especially since we are often referred in the media as being in a "tough neighbourhood".
