Why are u even talking about SDIC insurance which only applies to bank savings deposits? It doesn't apply to investments which i suspect the retiree and his wife had put their monies into.

Maybank offering 2.05%pa for 12-months FD.
2.05%pa x 5 already 10.25%pa and interest rates should be climbing higher in the next 5-years when you renew.
UOB offer 11% for lock-in 5 years, not a better deal.
