This latest CPIB investigation comes on the back of several recent high profile corruption cases involving civil servants.

In November, Koh Seah Wee, a former deputy director of the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), and Christopher Lim Chai Meng, a manager in his department, were jailed for 22 years and 15 years, respectively, for cheating the SLA and other government agencies of more than S$12 million.

Early this month, Liew Chee Meng, an assistant executive from the MHA, was jailed eight years and eight months for cheating the ministry of S$617,087.

Commenting on the recent spate of fraud and corruption cases in the public sector, corporate governance expert Mak Yuen Teen, an associate professor of accounting at the National University of Singapore Business School, said: "We need to take a long-hard look at ourselves - why is this happening, was there not enough due diligence when appointing people - as this could affect our image.

"Internationally, we've always ranked top three or four in the corruption perception index - I worry that this has made us complacent," he added.

Maybe they should be paid $12 million so that they are not tempted to get into $12 million frauds?

Say that they have been right all along. If civil servants are not paid well, they will corrupt like these 2 gentlemen here. They are not being paid enough clearly and to prevent such things from happening, Gerald Ee's committee will now review the salaries of civil servants, particularly those within MHA, in view of a mega pay rise.

they will say high pay is to prevent corruption, but does not mean no corruption
so if they are not paid highly, there will be more corruption

also the arrests of the SCDF and CNB chiefs will also show that there is no systemic corruption and that combating corruption is a multi pronged task: high pay to prevent and CPIB to punish corruption

Next one gahmen should look into is gebiz, many gahmen dept have already conspired with contractor,
no matter how low you bid you 'll never get the job! why? they call for tender just to show auditors
they have called for tender there are so many quotes received! if lowest quote from other contactor
are rejected, they alway have excuses.... I am tired to of gebiz I gave up long time ago! after many

bro,
last noted, enterprises use Oracle or SAP for raising POs, calls for quotation usually ends up with several quotes from the few selected suppliers? how different is that from Gebiz?
