Or if you decide to become a gambler, I recommend learning Black Jack, as the odds of winning per attempt is 40%, and if you get yourself educated in basic strategy of Black Jack, the odds becomes 47%, and plus if you learn how to do Card Counting (in your head, which is not illegal, as nobody can know what you are counting in your head), the odds go beyond 51%, and you beat the house... but that requires disciplined training of your mind, and you got to see how many decks the Black Jack table is using... normally should be 6 decks... but I will not be surprised in Singapore they use 8 decks because of the super kiasu culture.

My proposal to all readers, DO NOT GAMBLE.

If you want to learn the various strategies used in "Card Counting" read Ken Ustons book "Million Dollar Black Jack". He was part of a card counting gang that made $$$ from the casinos by counting cards

Think of it as the 10 year series of card counting:biggrin:

Dear Johnny333,

Thanks! I will go find that book, and read it as a hobby, and I do need a good team-mate to break the house... haha

333 from Bob Proctor's story, after 3 days of preparation, within 3 minutes, 3 million Canadian dollars were raised.

Thanks for the tip Johnny333, it will be fun to train up a horde of blackjack experts, and break the casinos...

More and more families will breakup because of debts from gambling... If this problem is not solved swiftly, the rate of crime will increase in Singapore.

Another proposal is that, the Government should consider getting a social problem ordnance levee from Casino in the tune of SGD 100 Million or more, to be supplied back to Singapore's social problem caused by the Casinos.

Social problems aren't caused by casinos. Social problems are caused by idiots who gamble their lives away.

The social problems caused by alcohol far outweigh those caused by gambling.

Why not impose a blanket ban all singaporeans? Let me guess... it is because reportedly 50% of the gaming revenue came from singaporeans last year?

eatshitndie already pointed out that access isn't the problem. you can't stop asses from behaving badly. Ban Singaporeans from local casinos, and they'll simply go back to the usual pre-casino gambling haunts (genting, off shore ships, online, etc).

what if this 50% of gaming revenue in fact originated from the "underground" gambling scene already existent and prevalent among singaporeans pre-casino? no studies were ever done on the scale of underground gaming in singapore. but if i recall correctly, recent reports on the bbc put the underground/black market economy at around 15% of world GDP. someone better at searching can verify this.

and with the house advantage at a few percent only, the casino becomes a "wealth exchange" if you like amongst the idiots who gamble. the casino is merely a facilitator. what one sucker loses, another wins, sans the casino's cut.

banning singaporeans outright would only cause us to bleed foreign exchange when the idiots gamble overseas instead.

i recall stories of malaysian chinese getting burnt badly at genting highlands in the early days, but the people wised up and managed to self-regulate as a community. We should have more faith in our fellow singaporeans to manage their own affairs. the days of SG: The Nanny State are drawing to a close.

what about debts from overspending on credit cards? debts incurred from attending get rich quick scams and actually investing in it? debts incurred from investing in unsound land-bank/financial investments? debts incurred from over leverage on speculative derivatives?

aren't all these debts breaking families up too? how come you are not up-in-arms over these debts and crying for them to be solved now? because collectively they cause more problems than gambling. one would be hypocritical to bay for the blood of the casinos only.

Singaporeans should be free to make their own choices and to live with the consequences. Education is the only shield effective against the sword of temptation.

I saw a documentary on Ken Uston & he was a smart guy who got degrees from Yale & Harvard. However anyone with a good memory should be able be able to challenge the casinos. Sporeans do alot of rote learning in school so they should do well.

Someone could win $$$ before the casinos catch on & ban rhat person

@bryanlim1972,

after reading your articles, sounds like you are an advocate of "LEGAL" Gambling. Anyways, to each his own.

Whatever the case, Gambling is the greatest sin that is the most difficult to eradicate... the human nature for wanting something with nothing is too great.

I can say so, because I was hooked on gambling before. Lost a small fortune...

Of course there are other ways to break up a family by incurring debts from credit cards, etc... blah blah blah...

I still find that debts incurred from Gambling is the worst kind of debts.

anyways, debts is not always good.

If you never gamble before, don't... if you are already a gambler, just make sure you learn to be an expert and turn gambling into a business...

Very good advice. But, discipline is one trait not many of us possess. Win, win more. Lose, must recover. Sure die formula.

Speak for yourself. None of my network of friends and relatives has the slightest interest in gambling their money down the tube.

Humans have the capability of exercising something known as "free will". In case you don't understand what that means in this context, it's the ability to choose whether or not to partake in the activities that are available in the vicinity.

Each and every Singaporean has the ability to make a personal choice not to step into any of the casinos. If they choose to gamble, they have made their own personal decision and they have to face the consequences of their actions.

Nobody else is to blame for the decisions they make for themselves.

i disagree: everyone has different tollerance level
if u temp a single guy with beautiful gals with huge boobs who can tarhan??
why temp people or make it more easy to gamble??

papaya team is fuck up in helping ordinary citizens prosper: there's no such thing as a Singapore dream only a shitapore nightmare ...people who gamble are people who want a better life: only thing is they are too naive or rather they did not study statistic or probabilty in school??

btw i don't gamble or cordone it but i really pity SOME gamblers who think they can use gambling as a means to have a better life for themselves or their families

i blive if drugs or prostition can earn billions papaya team may make it legitimate!!

The issue of gambling has always polarised society. Governments always have loved gambling because it's extraordinary taxing ability provides a significant revenue stream.

Society as a hold do not see this as a priority area as most people are able to handle gambling. Until the effects of problem gambling starts to hit society. Kidnapping, big robberies, extortion were rife until the 70s when the Govt went after illegal gambling dens across the island.

Where do you think the proceeds of crime were going - investing in property, stocks, schooling overseas.

Watch until a member of the elite is kidnapped and murdered.

So proximity and accessibility have nothing to do with it?
Ahmad and Minah go to Geylang for marketing every Sunday. Does it mean Ahmad every Sunday go to Lorong 8?

You go to London Soho Chinatown for Chinese food, do you also go for some excitement because it is in a red light district?

This "proximity" argument holds no water whatsoever. One might as well pull down all high rise buildings in sillypoor to avoid some suicidal twit from jumping off one.

I've been to Las Vegas 5 times in the last twenty years. Never wagered a single cent. I enjoyed the food, the shows, the shopping, the grand canyon, hoover dam, red rock canyon, sky diving etc but have never touched any of the machines or sat at any of the tables.

People who want to make a mess of their lives can do so without the assistance of any govt. They perfectly capable of doing it all on their own.

to be clear, i'm an advocate of any policy decision that results in even greater freedom of choice for singaporeans (including the freedom to make stupid mistakes like gambling away your money)

let's stop protecting the dumb and dumber minority at the cost of curtailing freedom of the majority

and there is nothing preventing every singaporean from applying for their own personal exclusion order.

prostitution is already decriminalized in singapore, and the ease of obtaining prescription narcotics is lining the pockets of many GPs. so in a way, drugs and prostitution is already semi-legal here. the casino is the icing on the cake.

for all who so fear the casinos, go apply for an exclusion order for yourself and your family on monday. if one doesn't t do so, it makes one a wishy-washy double back flipping bag of hot air.

btw, where got space to paraglide and play hot air balloons?? u ask the R/C helicopter/airplane guys and they'll tell you dam hard to find decent place to play. come one, how big you think 42km is??
