<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> AN INFORMATION technology engineer is now in court for attempting to outrage the modesty of a doctor. Pham Thai Ha, 30, is accused of holding her shoulders and trying to kiss her while being treated for a rash on a finger in June last year. He is also alleged to have used criminal force on her by holding her left hand and pulling her towards him during the same consultation.

The Vietnamese national and Singapore permanent resident is denying both charges. The court has ordered that the identity of the doctor not be revealed. On the first day of the trial on Tuesday, a district court heard that Pham, then working for StarHub, came to the clinic at 2.40pm on June 6 last year. She was the only doctor at the clinic then. Testifying, the doctor said that after she had prescribed antibiotic cream for the rash on Pham's finger, he complained about a rash on his buttocks.

She told him to remove his clothes for an examination but found no rash.
The doctor alleged that he had an erection and it was then he reached for her left hand and tried to tug it towards him. She said she pulled away and told him to dress while she went to her table to write the case notes. After putting on his clothes, he went behind her, put his hands on her shoulders, leaned down and said that he liked her very much. He then tried to kiss her, she said. Pham is represented by lawyer P.E. Ashokan. The trial is set for three days.

PR fined for molesting doctor

By Elena Chong

A FORMER IT engineer was fined a total of $8,000 on Tuesday for molesting a doctor during a consultation. Pham Thai Ha, 30, a Singapore permanent resident, was convicted last week by District Judge Kamala Ponnampalam of holding the 26-year-old doctor's shoulders and trying to kiss her when he was seeking treatment for a rash on a finger.

The incident took place at a clinic in Clementi on June 8 last year. He was also found guilty of using criminal force on the doctor by grasping her hand and pulling her to him. The doctor had testified that after prescribing an antibiotic cream for the rash on Pham's finger, he complained about a rash on his buttocks. On examining him, she found dark skin patches there.

She alleged that he was then aroused, and reached for her hand and tried to tug it towards him. She pulled away and went to her table, but he sat naked on the couch and asked: 'Are you sure you've finished checking?' He then got dressed, went behind her, put his hands on her shoulders, leaned down and said he liked her very much.

When he next tried to steal a kiss, she shouted for the nurse, she said.
Pham left the room but returned a while later to apologise; he also laid a finger on his lips to ask for her discretion. Pham, defended by Mr P.E. Ashokan, could have been jailed for up to two years, fined or caned or received any combination of the punishments for outrage of modesty.

Pham Thai Ha, 30, was fined $8,000 for his offences.

A FORMER IT engineer who was a mathematics prodigy was found guilty of molesting a woman doctor during a consultation and fined $8,000 yesterday. Pham Thai Ha, 30, was convicted last week of holding on to the shoulders of the 26-year-old general practitioner and trying to kiss her left cheek.

The Vietnamese citizen and Singapore permanent resident, a father of one, also grasped her hand and pulled her towards him at a clinic in Clementi on June 8 last year. Pham, who won a Singapore Asean scholarship for his master's degree in electrical and computer engineering at the National University of Singapore, was fined $7,000 for outraging modesty and $1,000 for using criminal force.

During the seven-day trial before District Judge Kamala Ponnampalam, the doctor had testified that she prescribed Pham an antibiotic cream for a rash on his finger. He then complained about a rash on his behind. She told him to take off his trousers. As she was examining him, he grabbed her hand. She pulled away and went to her table, but Pham sat naked on the couch and asked: 'Are you sure you've finished checking?'
