Actually both Danshui and Jiufen are nice, each having a different scenic nostalgic ambiance.
But due to easier access, I always make sure to visit Danshui.
Depending on timing, it can really get rather crowded and spoils the beauty of mild serenity.
Oh yeah... their fish crackers is the best... cannot be found anywhere else beyond Danshui, must get many packs when visiting there.

Jiufen is much more interesting than Danshui.
It's a place that just keeps going up and up with nice eateries and shops selling interesting knick knacks.
Can even spend a night in one of their small homestay hotels.

Danshui is a nice beach-like resort town, but the main thing there is to eat their fishball keropok. :o
Sun Moon Lake is indeed very beautiful, there are some amusement parks nearby as well.

Go Taiwan must also climb Yangming Shan, go to the place with sulphur (sorry can't remember the name) and go to the museums. Most importantly, go to the night markets.

We aw heard bout it in jokes...now got chance 2 feel wat's like 2 bonk camel...:p:p

Was looking this up after seeing your pic. Seems like they are "refilling the lake"

In 2006, the local government with help of central government has started to fill the lake and restore its depth, its depth and size has been growing yearly since then.

If you are taking a Greyhound bus & it's not a direct trip, you may not be able to get a seat on the 2nd connecting bus. It almost happened to me while taking a greyhound from Niagara to New York. Had to switch to another bus somewhere in the state of NY. It was the last bus of the day & there were more passengers than seats available. Many were left behind.

I had already pre-booked a hotel room & paid in advance in NYC. Almost wasted $$

How much does a bus trip like that cost? I took a flight NYC<->Buffalo to get the Niagara falls and it cost me >USD$100

Less than a $100, I think. Cost is not an issue, that's why I don't remember the exact figure because it is the cheapest way to travel. However in my case it was the most conveniently way to get from Niagara to NYC.

Actually I used a rental to drive from Toronto to Niagara & eventually dropped off the car at St. Catharines, then took a bus to NYC. It was at buffalo that I had to switch buses.

While exploring Niagara I mistakenly drove into the american side. Had to re-enter the Canadian side to continue my holiday. Taking the bus to NYC was more convenient as I was not familiar with the highway system in that region. Driving & parking in NYC can also be a nightmare if your not familiar with the city.

Night life in Xian wonderful so are the ladies but got no chance. After that spent long hours travelling through deserts.

Are u serious about nightlife in Xian?
Based on my experience, Xian was the only city in China where I didn't experience the "nightlife'. :o

All I saw were fake warriors.

I love the Gugong Museum in Taipei. The artifacts there are amazing.

BTW have U been to Keng Ting? My TW Colleague kept telling me damn nice but havent had a chance to go

Gugong museum is indeed amazing.
Wonder how many items there actually belong to PRC? :o

Haven't been to Kenting, but also heard good things about it.
Taiwan is a lovely place.

Yes, they are both nice, but Jiufen is more unique. In Jiufen, must eat the yam balls.
Jiufen is definitely at least a day trip or more. Danshui can spend one afternoon or evening.

Most if not all of them actually belongs to PRC. The story behind those artifacts is that Chiang Kai Shek ran off with them to Taiwan when he loss the war hence the name of the place "Gu Gong Museum". Gu Gong = Forbidden Palace of Beijing. To be fair if it had been left in PRC hands, many of those artifacts might have been destroyed

Hi all,

Below are my dream travel plan. Wondering if anyone has ever taken such trips before?

1. Rail Travel all the way from Woodlands Checkpoint to Moscow. If I have more money and time, hopefully all the way to London.

2. Norway, just to see the Northern Lights.
