Uniformed NS police officers smoke outside Subordinate Courts

These national service police officers should be more discreet when they take cigarette breaks, says STOMPer Jason, who spotted them smoking outside the Subordinate Courts while dressed in uniform.

Although their uniform jackets were worn inside-out, it was still obvious that they were dressed in police uniform, he says.

Jason says:

"Although they were wearing jackets that were reversed to prevent the police logos from being exposed, it was clear that these NS police officers were smoking in a group just outside Subordinate Courts.

"They were all wearing the police uniform under their reversed police jackets and were seen gathering and smoking together after buying breakfast.

"Shouldn't they be more discreet?".

NS policemen are humans after all. What is wrong with them smoking? Smoking is not against the law.

I find this sort of comment very bias and even selfish.

So what if those are policeman, aint they human? cant they take breaks? You mean even having breaks and rest must also be discreet?

Police can smoke when OE (officially at ease, e.g. mealbreaks) in areas where smoking is allowed. The picture shows a dustbin with an ashtray top. Smoking is obviously allowed there. They're packing mealpacks, obviously on mealbreaks.

Police shouldn't smoke in police cars or when walking around with peakcaps on, that's assumed to be on active duty or patrol. These men breached none of the rules.

Moonlightaffairs is right. Last time police even sat around hawker centres and coffeeshops to eat and smoke, only no alcohol allowed. In recent years, I believe that a force order has been passed that all uniformed officers must buy take-away foods.

thats right ...inside buliding cannot smoke ...where do we expect them to smoke ?

Inside yellow box? I can offer my services FOC to paint the boxes all over S'pore. They will be huge boxes whereby several million can smoke within the box.

I would think that allowing unformed officers to eat at hawker centre is a good thing. Although on meal break they still bring security to that hawker centre. Why the change as long as they conduct themselves well and do not smoke and drink.
