The two Germans who trespassed into the SMRT depot at Bishan and vandalised an SMRT Train were sentenced to 9 months in jail and 3 strokes of the cane each.
Andreas Von Knorre, 22, and Elton Hinz, 21, admitted to trespassing into the Bishan Depot 3 times last year in November 6, 7 and 8 in the wee hours of the morning.
On November 8, they had taken spray paint in with them and vandalised one of the trains at the depot. This incident happened between 2:48am and 3:29am on November 8.
The two men pleaded guilty to 2 charges of entering a protected place and 1 charge of vandalism each.

The two were in Singapore as tourists and they had arrived on Nov 4th and were staying in a hotel in Geylang.
The day before the vandalism, the two had bought yellow latex gloves and 12 cans of spray paint.

The two got into the depot through the large drain system and caused damage which cost about $13,600 to clean up.

Shortly after the vandalism, the two left the country to continue their South-east Asia holiday. They were located to have been in Bangkok by the Thai police and Malaysian police helped to arrest them when they flew to KL on November 20. The following day, they were handed over to Singapore.

Vandalism carries a maximum sentence of 3 years in jail and a fine of $2,000. It also carried a minimum 3 strokes of the cane.
What is perhaps most concerning about this case is the fact that it is so easy for people to get into the SMRT depot. This is not the first time that security was breached and SMRT had previously claimed that they would be tightening security. (Another Train Vandalised at SMRT Depot Despite "Tightened Security")

It seems that their efforts were still insufficient as these two men were able to gain access on three consecutive days without being stopped.

It is fortunate that their only intent was to vandalize the train instead of something more malicious which could potentially threaten the safety of the hundreds of thousands of commuters who rely on the train system daily.

What do you think?

Too harsh for them. At home they do such things are considered art.

they think it is like germany. Singapore is not Germany.

but i think the sentence too harsh. If Hilter had won, PAP will not dare to imprison them.

pap think this will stop future spray paint artists

i think this unnecessary harsh sentence will attract more to come to singapore

singapore will look like this in future.
