TR’s Great Singapore Scam!

I do not know why people are getting so excited about the impeding closure of TR. Surely any sane person is intelligent enough to realize that this sensational announcement is nothing but a ploy to gain more readers, fleece more money from those mad man that are addicted to TR’s garbage journalism, and to see more BOGUS DEBIT CARDS.

The gaining more readers point is clear as day. TR is hung up about their readership and have without hesitation boasted how they get many more readers than TOC and how they are catching up with Mainstream media.

As for the fleecing more money, TR has claimed:

“Some have speculated that it may be a ploy to solicit for more funding but it is not. We are not asking for anymore donations. With the increased readership and popularity of TR, it is no longer feasible to depend on mere donations to keep the site alive“

That is a ridiculous statement. How much does it cost to host a website? 500-1000 dollars a year? Last i checked, TR received a whopping USD$8,250 from donations. Are you telling us that having more than $10,000 singapore dollars is not enough to run a simple website?

See: http://wayangpartyexposed.wordpress.com/2011/04/08/trs-final-great-scam/ for the evidence TR has >$8k

Now we know that Joseph Ong and his webmasters Andrew Tay and Pan Yuqin are up to no good as they had this much money as of 27 March 2011! Yet a few days later they announce they are closing down due to lack of funds.

Lets not forget their other big scam, the TR limited addition black series debit cards that have no value. A wonder full idea really. Send TR USD $60 to get some cheap plastic card and pray they don’t screw you over when you approach the “bank” to add value to the card. How much do you want to bet that the bank has no link back to Joseph Ong or his accomplices.

The big dummy is Alicia Wong of Yahoo news for not doing her home work or any form of investigative journalism. If she did, she would have connected all the dots.

$8k is little

If the owner is really a doctor, he can earn that amount in 1 month

Why even bother to fleece from helpless Sinkie ah Bengs

But I like your blog

Just don't spend too much time on it

TR has mentioned too the site is time consuming to maintain and they want to spend more time witht heir family. So, its not just the money part. I can see this to be the case. Unlike Sammyboy where u can just write and post, your postings in TR has to be send to their email, and than they read over it before posting it on their website. Therefore, they avoid all the flame wars that go on here. Its an extremely time consuming and tiring process. I think they want to just move on, there is not enough money to keep them doing this.

All the editors, sub-editors, journalists, etc suddenly all want to spend more time with their family.

If one day receiving 1000 emails, you don't need to update every day if there are limited people. They said they have like-minded people around who share the same vision.

They don't avoid flame wars in their website, because they censor out those stuff that are not good for Temasek Review.

Their website is mostly words, not as much graphics and banner intensive as forums. So they better not come and say money not enough. This reason of money no enough only good enough to con I.T. idiots.

It goes to show the bad behaviour of the perpetrators behind Temasek Review have driven themselves to a dead end. It was supposed to be a site to air independant view points. But it decided to spend a lot of effort attacking other opposition members. It has lost its cause. It has lost support. Closing down is the right thing to do for them.

Temasek Review to shut down after July

SINGAPORE: Socio—political website Temasek Review (TR), which has often positioned itself as critical of government, will be shutting down after July.

In a reply to Channel NewsAsia queries on Thursday, a TR spokesperson confirmed that no agency has asked it to shut down but added: "We would be lying if we say there’s been no pressure from the Government."

The spokesperson, however, said that the effect of the pressure was minimal as the TR team is based overseas.

Last year, Singapore’s investment company Temasek Holdings, asked the website to change its name, saying TR was trying to capitalise on its goodwill and reputation linked to the their annual report named "Temasek Review".

The closing down of TR was first reported on Yahoo! Singapore on Thursday.

TR editor Amanda Tan said that uncertainty over funding was the reason for shutting the site down.

There was no external pressure and negative press on one of TR’s past contributors, Dr Joseph Ong, did not influence their decision, she said.

But the TR spokesperson however, said there was indirect pressure arising from mainstream media reports which "were aimed to shut us down".

TR’s growth was also stymied by its limited pool of contributors, the TR spokesperson told Channel NewsAsia.

Despite its growing popularity, potential contributors stayed away because they were afraid of being associated with TR. This "fear factor bordering on paranoia did not help TR", he said.

The website started seven years ago and garnered a strong following over the years, reaching 1.04 million visitors in just Singapore alone.

TR’s impending closure comes in the wake of socio—political blog The Online Citizen (TOC) becoming the first blog here to be gazetted as a political association in January. This means it cannot accept foreign donations.

Singapore Management University assistant professor Michael Netzley, who has research interests in digital media, said that the question of governmental pressure would inevitably come up among the blogosphere. But these sites might then respond to come up with more balanced and thoughtful articles to enhance their reputation, he said.

Political observer Azhar Ghani, however, believes TR’s closure will not affect bloggers. Other sites will soon emerge to replace TR, he said.

Political blogger Siew Kum Hong, who is one of the four persons responsible for TOC’s compliance as a gazetted site, said: "I always back the principle of having more speech than less, and hence it is a pity to see TR shut down."

But sustaining a site is very time—consuming, he said.

TR has been funded by donations and advertising revenues, but there have been occasions when its team had to pay costs out of their own pockets, the TR spokesperson said.

Netizen Quah Chin Chin, 25, said that while TR offers a one—sided view of issues at times, it still provides an alternative voice to the mainstream media.

Readers would feel its loss, she said.

Morons who believe in stupid bullshit from that moronic site deserves what's coming to them. The stupid website is made of nothing more then retards, trolls and idiots who pull jokes out their ass. The fact that they never check any of their own post and by their own admission, never bother to even make any attempt at verifying them speaks volumes of how much of a joke they are.

USD8k is enought to run a site properly. However, if the owner is looking to enrich himself for the job well done (using viewership as KPI), then it is certainly not enough.

Just like our ministars. Half a million salary should be enough for them to do a good job but they need couple of millions so that they will remain incorruptible and getting pay rise using GDP as KPI.

TR has all the hallmark of one runs by the PAPies.

Is that why it is not asked to be registered like TOC?

Anyway, who the fuck need a debit card?
