Posted: 01 October 2011 0029 hrs

SINGAPORE: Narcotics officers have arrested another three suspected members of a local drug trafficking syndicate and seized a significant amount of heroin and other drugs destined for the streets.

In all about 1.4 kilograms of heroin, 176 grams of "Ice" and 318 "Ecstasy" tablets were seized. The total street value of the drugs is worth about S$270,000.

The latest operation is a follow-up to the arrest and seizure of 1.26 kg of heroin on Tuesday.

The first suspected syndicate member, a 44-year-old Singaporean, was arrested in the vicinity of Prince Edward Road on Friday afternoon. Officers recovered about 1.4 kg of heroin in a plastic bag found in his possession.

Officers then located his associate at Pandan Gardens and arrested him. The 43-year old man led officers to his suspected hideout in Banda Street where a small packet of heroin weighing about 4 g was found.

Another team of officers arrested a 30-year-old Singaporean, also known to be a member of the syndicate in Queensway. They later recovered about 176 g of "Ice" and 318 "Ecstasy" tablets from his residence in Ang Mo Kio.

All three suspected members of the syndicate will be further investigated. If convicted, they may face the death penalty.
