I remember Indian pancake as 'Pok Chang' instead of roti prata.

Perhaps it came from the 'pok' sound when the dough was thrown on the table and the 'chang' sound when the metal spatula hit the hotplate.

'Pok Chang' was sold outside the night soil treatment plant at Waterloo Street which is unimaginable in today's context. It may be my imagination but I faintly remember seeing shit being stirred in the plant. Perhaps the local term 'stir shit' came from there.

I wonder if 'water' and 'loo' in the street name had been deciding factors in locating the plant there.

Does anyone recall Wang Sa & Ye Feng's Ah Ngau movie? Does anyone know if it's available on DVD? It wasn't exactly the pinnacle of cinema art but I think it's an important part of our cinematic history.[/QUOTE]
