What happens when a company's business drops?
Company reduces staff costs.
But the union is preventing the security company from reducing staff costs or terminating staff.
Company is bleeding to death: lower revenue but wage costs still high.
Security agencies, cleaning contractors, gardening companies....thank you for Progressive Wage Model.
Huat ah!

Security agency being dealt with for trying to reset officers’ wages by demoting them: Ng Chee Meng

SINGAPORE – A security agency is being dealt with by the Union of Security Employees (USE) for attempting to reset the wages of some 300 officers through forced demotions.
The agency, which hires over 1,000 officers, carried out the demotions as it no longer had the contracts to keep these officers at their current job ranks, said labour chief Ng Chee Meng on Tuesday, without naming the agency.
Under the Progressive Wage Model for the outsourced private security sector, security officers’ monthly basic wages before overtime start from $1,650, up from $1,100 in 2016.
From 2024, there will be a marked shift in officers’ wages under the model. They will receive a gross monthly wage instead of basic wage plus overtime. This is because their wages will exceed the $2,600 cap, and as such, under the Employment Act, they will no longer qualify for overtime wages.
Giving more details on the errant security agency, Mr Ng said the USE immediately engaged with the company after being informed of its practices by some of its union members in late 2022.
“After the union’s intervention, the agency agreed not to demote these officers, but instead, extended their working hours. This is yet again, another attempt to reset the employment terms of these officers,” said Mr Ng.
The USE then took the agency to the Manpower Ministry for conciliation. The agency agreed to the union and ministry’s request to conduct joint engagements with affected workers to establish remedial actions.

No further details were available as the case is undergoing conciliation.
“NTUC (National Trades Union Congress) and USE are keeping a close watch on this case and will not hesitate to take the agency to task should there be further non-compliance,” said Mr Ng.
He reminded companies to refer to the Tripartite Guidelines on Managing Excess Manpower and consult the union before taking actions that impact workers.
Mr Ng added that NTUC and its affiliated unions will ensure that workers reap the benefits intended under the Progressive Wage Model.
“We will ensure that their employers and service buyers alike honour their legal and social obligations to our workers.”

Wow! PAP is the real workers' party! Look at how PAP intervenes to protect blue collared workers while the wankers from WP are nowhere to be seen as usual.

Isn't Ng Chee Meng the guy who was rejected by the people of Singapore? What mandate does he have to speak on behalf of the workforce?

He was elected by the union workers of NTUC. He has the mandate from hundreds of thousands of unionized workers.

Imuho there are certain positions with a fix job scope mostlee in operations area which in the 1st place should not have a yearlee increment or annual leaves increment.
Why should a company pay a old fart higher salarlee or more annual leaves while other young new joiners doing the same job scope getting lesser ?
In fact it should be the opposite I.e old farts pay to be leeduced since they are slower.
To be most fair everyone doing the same job should be paid the same wages.

Be clear minded
Leefer to taxi driving
Every driver is getting the same

"Elected"??? Who else was in the running? I do not recall this process.

Mr Chan Chun Sing has resigned from his position of secretary-general of the NTUC on 22 May 2018 to return to the Government. He has been Trade and Industry Minister since 1 May 2018 after taking over the post from Mr Lim Hng Kiang who retired from the cabinet.

Following a meeting held on the same day, the NTUC Central Committee unanimously elected NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng to take over the position of secretary-general effective immediately.

He was a minister at the time so he was appointed to the position by his running dogs to replace outgoing minister CCS.

However in the 2020 election he was unceremoniously booted out of office so in what election did "thousands" of workers decide that they wanted him to represent them despite that fact that he was no longer qualified to run a coffee shop let alone a labour movement?

Bro Chee Meng lost the municipal elections for slumkang grc. That has no bearings on his election victory in NTUC. They are two different elections.

There was no election. He was "co opted" into the CEC. His only positive attribute is a thick skin. I'd be too embarrassed to accept the appointment after having my ass kicked in the GE.

I hope the article below clears up your misunderstanding about Bro Chee Meng's elected role as NTUC Sec-Gen.

pap-walkabout-in-rivervale-plaza--8-.jpg

She said the position is one that stands "independent of political appointments" as it is an NTUC-elected position.

"The members of the NTUC Central Committee stand in unanimous support for Brother Ng Chee Meng as secretary-general of NTUC," said Ms Liew.

In an article on the NTUC website dated Jul 11, one day after polling for the General Election, NTUC said Mr Ng would stay on as the labour chief, but having lost his parliamentary seat, would relinquish his Cabinet post of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office.

"It is upon the NTUC Central Committee’s request and mutual agreement that a Cabinet Minister is seconded to NTUC. Whilst the two roles have been inextricably linked, they are in fact independent of each other," she added.

Mr Ng reiterated this point in a Facebook post: "While the role of the Labour Chief and Cabinet Minister have been inextricably linked and has served workers well, they are in fact independent."

The role of the NTUC secretary-general is elected by union delegates once in four years at the national level.

After losing sengkang grc they have to give him a job . Don't expect him to go back to his former job as a airforce general fighter pilot.

What's ever it is, if the company has no revenues. It's time to close down. It's not the problem of minimum wage or progressive wage.

So Mr. Ng should have fought for hundreds thousands of local PMET too, to voice out our opposition against the CECA agreement and demand the government to revoke the CECA agreement and stop bringing in CECA Indians to displace our local PMET
