Russia are favorites to top Group A table and i am sure they will not settle for a draw. Instead of cracking my head on who will emerge as winner of this match i will go for number of goals and first scorer for both sides while Cruxx is likely to bet on underdogs Poland with home crowd support.

Euro 2012 Group A Preview: Poland v Russia

11 June 2012

Russia can book their spot in the Euro 2012 quarter-finals with victory against co-hosts Poland in Warsaw on Tuesday. Dick Advocaat's side made an excellent start to the tournament, with a 4-1 Group A win against the Czech Republic in Wroclaw on Friday. They are unbeaten in 15 games, defeated Italy 3-0 in their last friendly prior to Euro 2012 and dominated the Czechs in a sublime display of attacking football.

But despite all that, Advocaat says there is no chance of complacency creeping into the Russian camp.
"Not once have I seen the players thinking this will be an easy game, as there are no easy games," Advocaat said. "Against Poland it will be a different game, a different opponent, and I think it will be a tougher match than the first one."It's going to be another interesting game for both teams in another great stadium."

Midfielder Alan Dzagoev scored a brace against the Czech Republic, while Roman Shirokov and Roman Pavlyuchenko also got on the scoresheet.
The link play between Dzagoev, Andrey Arshavin and Alexander Kerzhakov in the attacking third was a joy to watch, and although the latter missed a hatful of chances, he will still be pleased with the amount of times he was able to get the ball in dangerous positions.

Kerzhakov did have seven attempts at goal that were off target – the most recorded for any match by a player at the European Championship finals – and Advocaat might be tempted to bring in Pavlyuchenko off the bench.
Poland's opening match was very different. They dominated the first half, scored first through Robert Lewandowski and should have been ahead by two or three goals at the break.

But they weren't, and a 10-man Greece outfit made them pay, with the co-hosts perhaps lucky to even finish with a point after Przemyslaw Tyton saved a Giorgios Karagounis penalty – that came after goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was given a straight red - and Dimitris Salpingidis had a goal ruled out for offside.
Poland coach Franciszek Smuda felt the occasion – his side opened the tournament in front of a large, expectant crowd – had got to his side afterwards.

"I can tell you we were very well prepared but we were under great pressure, great stress, and I think it was a big burden for this very young team who have not played in a big tournament before," Smuda said.
"A draw is not the end of it; this tournament is still open. We have two matches to go and should not dwell on this but just focus on the next one and winning it."Tyton will be called on again with fellow goalkeeper Szczesny (suspended), while the latter's Arsenal team-mate Lukasz Fabianski, also a 'keeper, was ruled out of the tournament after injuring his shoulder in training.

Russia are only likely to make changes if Advocaat favours a change in personnel.
Poland have conceded just one goal in their last 551 minutes of competitive play and will have the backing of a passionate home crowd again, but they will need to be at their best to deny an in-form Russia.

Watch Petr Cech's trademark move when positioning himself for a penalty kick at 0:15. You won't be able to find another keeper like him.

Cech was a young keeper at 22 years old in 2004 when his side lost to Greece in extra time play.

Euro 2012 Group A preview: Greece v Czech Republic

11 June 2012

12427397830.jpg

Failure to win against Greece in Wroclaw on Tuesday could spell the end of the Czech Republic's hopes at Euro 2012.A 4-1 loss to Russia in their Group A opener was disastrous for the Czechs, as their defence was repeatedly torn apart by the likes of Alan Dzagoev and Andrey Arshavin. But despite the heavy defeat, Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech believes his team can still qualify for the quarter-finals.

"The first game sometimes shows what the group will be like but it's not the key one," Cech said.
"The crucial game will be the second one (against Greece). If we fail in that one, our chances of advancing will be very thin. "A 4-1 defeat doesn't look the best but it's basically the same as 1-0...you simply get no points."We lost a battle, not the war. The good thing is we still have 180 minutes to advance. We have to look ahead, that's what matters now.

"
All is not lost for Michal Bilek's side however, with Russia reaching the Euro 2008 semi-finals despite a 4-1 loss, to Spain, in their first match of the tournament.Winger Vaclav Pilar scored his side's only goal in their loss in Wroclaw and was the most impressive player for the Czechs, while midfielder Jaroslav Plasil also put in a good performance. Also in their favour is the fact they will be taking on a battered and bruised Greece side.

Defender Avraam Papadopoulos (left knee) is sidelined for the rest of the tournament while his partner in Greece's first-choice defence, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, was given a red card and will miss the match through suspension.
Midfielder Giorgos Fotakis (thigh) is also unlikely to play, meaning Greek coach Fernando Santos will need to dig deep into his squad to find capable replacements.

With Papadopoulos and Papastathopoulos both sidelined by half-time and Greece trailing by a goal to Poland in the tournament opener on Friday, it seemed inevitable that Santos' side would start with a defeat.
But half-time substitute Dimitris Salpingidis scored six minutes into the second-half and Giorgios Karagounis had a chance to give Greece an unlikely lead, only for his penalty to be saved by Poland's reserve goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton with 20 minutes to go.

Salpingidis also had a goal ruled out in the latter stages, with Konstantinos Fortounis offside in the build-up, as Greece finished strongly against the odds.
Salpingidis' excellent contribution off the bench makes him likely to start while Kiriakos Papadopoulos is expected to feature at the heart of defence.

I think Poland vs Russia will be a goalfest.

Poland was double penetrated by Germany and Russia in WW2.
There is a historical score to settle.

Poland sort of faded after a pulsating first half in the opening game (against 10 men Greece) - allowed them to equalise, and gave away a penalty which Greece fluffed. I think Russia will win and confirm their progression

Follow pattern.

Greece (non favourite) will win or draw the early game against Czech.

Russia (favourite) will win against Poland in the later game.

Ballack slams England for 'parking three buses' in front of France goal

The former Bayern Munich and Chelsea man was critical of the Three Lions' defensive display during their Euro 2012 opener, suggesting it's not the right way to play football

Jun 12, 2012 11:33:00 AM

By Matt Scrafton

Michael Ballack provided a damning verdict on England’s performance during their 1-1 draw with Euro 2012 Group D rivals France on Monday.

England mustered a resilient performance, containing their rivals and limiting them to just a handful of opportunities. Joleon Lescott headed the Three Lions into the lead, but his Manchester City team-mate Samir Nasri drew the French level with a well-placed shot past Joe Hart.

However, for large parts of the game Laurent Blanc’s side were camped in the England half but struggled to create any clear cut opportunities.

The 35-year-old Ballack was critical of the defensive manner in which Roy Hodgson set up his side, despite acknowledging that England achieved their goal of avoiding defeat in their Euro 2012 opener.

“I’m really disappointed with the game. England wanted the point and they got one, but is this the way to play football in the future? I’m not sure,” the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder said onESPN.

“If you’re parking three buses in front of the goal, that’s not football.

“They’re sitting back most of the time with 10 players, it’s difficult for every team to create chances ... I’m not impressed.”

England's second group game will be on Friday against Sweden, who lost 2-1 to co-hosts Ukraine on Monday.

England played just like Chelsea, claims frustrated France defender Evra

By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER PUBLISHED: 05:31 GMT, 12 June 2012 | UPDATED: 07:31 GMT, 12 June 2012

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra believes England followed Chelsea's example in order to collect a Euro 2012 point against France on Monday night.

Les Bleus dominated possession, and made twice as many passes as their opponents in the Donbass Arena.

Level-pegging: Samir Nasri beats Manchester City team-mate Joe Hart

However, they were unable to find a second goal once Samir Nasri had levelled Joleon Lescott's point-blank header before half-time as England defended doggedly.

'We are frustrated because I think we played much better,' said Evra.
'At times it was like there were 15 bodies in front of us. It was really difficult to find space.'People laugh but they played the way that Chelsea played against Barcelona.'

Maybe the fans want England to play more football but if they win the tournament like that, they will be happy.'

article-0-138FAC45000005DC-433_468x345.jpg

Stifled: Patrice Evra (centre) was frustrated at England's playing style, while England were frequently puzzled by the decisions of Italian referee Nicola Rizzoli (below)

Nasri was crowned man-of-the-match by UEFA for an excellent overall display. The Manchester City midfielder was barracked by England's fans, presumably for the manner of his big-money move from Arsenal last summer.

It triggered a reaction from Nasri after his goal, where he put a finger to his lips in a silencing gesture, although manager Laurent Blanc was unaware of why.
'That's between him and his detractors,' said the France coach.

'That is something personal.
'There are individual and personal reactions. These are things we don't always expect.'I think Samir was happy to score a goal and play a good game. You'd have to ask him who he was directing that (gesture) to.'

Les Blues: Philippe Mexes (left) and Marvin Martin of France

Meanwhile, Nasri revealed he deceived City team-mate Joe Hart in order to score his goal. 'When Franck Ribery gave me the ball, the England defence was really low (sitting back),' said Nasri. 'I decided to take a shot but Joe Hart knows me from Manchester City and knows that in that situation, I normally open my foot.'This time I closed it a little bit so I am happy with how it worked out.' Although Nasri was disappointed France only collected a point, he accepts it is already a vast improvement on the debacle that unfolded in South Africa two years ago.

Laurent Blanc's men have taken their unbeaten run to 22 games and are in good heart ahead of a meeting with co-hosts Ukraine in Donetsk on Friday.
'We are making a lot of progress,' he said.'We have come from nothing in 2010, when we made a lot of mistakes.'Today we are more mature. We can do something with this group.'Nasri played down the massive ice-pack he had strapped to his knee, insisting it was 'nothing serious'.

Boss, do you think there will be 15 teams left in the tournament after tonight? Or will I be left without ears from tomorrow onwards?

The following is a comment by Rafael VDV:

"I can count only three outstanding players in the Germany squad: (Mesut) Ozil, (Mario) Gotze and (Bastian) Schweinsteiger," he told NUsport. "Their defence is okay, but that's all.

“I think we have more quality. But football is also about confidence, and that's what they will have now.”

Hahaha, what about Neuer, Lahm, Hummels, Gomez, Poldolski, etc..........
Is the Dutch keeper and any defender better than the first 3 names above?

Only Kuba and Lewandoski are potential game changes.
Frankly, I haven't even heard of most of the others.

Czech Republic should play Tomas Necid more.
For Russia, look out for his club team mate Dzagoev.
