In the spirit of compromise and cooperation, we would like to propose that our two parties run a joint campaign and field one candidate from the SDP. If victorious, the SDP candidate will enter Parliament and the WP will run the Punggol East Town Council.

– Press statement by SDP, 11 January 2013

Its a good sign of a "coalition" within the parties for the future? Oppositions in Singapore, in my personal opinion, are too fragmented.

It's really still premature to talk about any coalition. A coalition implies having at least 2 parties with seats in parliament agreeing to work together, and we are not there yet.

I'm just digging this out to illustrate one thing. Chee Soon Juan might be a really dumb guy, but it seems that the PAP has managed to outdo him. The fact of the matter is that nobody is really talking about this "opposition unity / joint candidature" brainfart anymore because it has been eclipsed by something a hundred times more hideous ie the population white paper.

This one beats that one and 'has done better'....

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has acknowledged that the government could have done better in presenting the Population White Paper to the public.

The paper, together with the Land Use Plan, forms a roadmap to chart the country’s future policies to tackle the aging and shrinking population and was bulldozed through Parliament by 77 to 13 votes, despite strong objections by many, both online and offline.

By year's end most people would have forgotten the White Paper, in the same way that most have already forgotten about Bukit Brown. That is the reason the White Paper was introduced now and not in 2015.

"If the PAP fails to win a majority in the next election, the Workers Party will form a coalition government with it (to keep it in office)"

- PAP's 'B' team MP Pritam Singh, May 2011

The WP must publicly renounce its desire to form a coalition government with the PAP first or we will indirectly end up voting for the PAP!

I challenge you to find the press statement where Mr Pritam Singh said those exact words.
Go on, I'm waiting. That's right, you can't find it because you totally made up that sentence.

Bro, I don't think people will forget...as long as costs remain high, places are crowded and more and more foreigners in our midst.

Oh wow, I can't believe you would also buy into that twisted 'statement'.
These are Pritam Singh's exact words from his speech:

“It may be a case in future whereby the PAP only wins 36 and we may have to form a coalition government. There is only a finite number of individual parties they want to work with.”

The meaning here should be quite clear. It doesn't mean WP will automatically choose to enter into a coalition with the PAP, although everyone seem to love twisting those words to mean that. What Pritam Singh means is that if it ever comes to that situation where the PAP fails to win the majority but has the largest share of seats, the PAP will be put into the situation where they have to ask one of the other parties to form a coalition, and if the PAP chooses the WP, they would have to consider at that point of time if accepting may be in the best interest for Singapore. The other options the Worker's Party would have is to form a coalition with all the other opposition parties, or to simply decline and see if the PAP will choose someone else or form a minority government.
