I used to explore the "little india" portion where the old bus depot & taxi stops were, but my favourite wanton mee shop had closed down, go exploring " tai ma pasar" for food & to Taman Sentosa...where the food court food was good ( till it got renovated) , there are 2 pharmacies there, 1 or 2 hardware stores I window shop... & RHB Bank, if I need to do banking... for a while some years back, to Aeon City during the moon cake festival period, for mooncakes....then browse around, Setia Indah...Johor Jaya...have not been up there for a long time.

Nowadays...like you hang around city square & not so much of Jalan Ah Fook...which till this day, I still avoid, unless I have specific things to buy...the only thing specific at the moment would be mooncakes & medicine..

I think they are finally catching on that not all Sporeans have a car. So they are developing the area around the City Square & Komtar Malls. I used to go to JB every month but JB is now getting crowded with Sporeans so I've reduced the frequency of trips.

Maybe it's time find new places to explore like Penang, Cameron Highlands,....

You must not go during weekends. Go during weekdays before Friday. It's not crowded at all.

I'm going to KSL to buy moon cake. The sports shop at KSL is also my favorite hunting ground.

Penang, have not been there for the last 3 years, before that, frequently go up once a year. I have seen it changed over the years, transportation had improved a bit, previously one have to take a cab to go places like Kek Lok Si...& the public transport buses, 1 hr schedule or never.....the last time I went up, I took a bus from the pier to Pulau Tikus by Rapid bus, quite good & aircond...becoming too commercialised & lost its charm.

Cameron Highlands too have become too congested, too commercialised & I discovered Starbucks at Tanah Rata..other than that still can go relax a bit & go off season from the Singapore or Malaysian school holidays....that is what I usually does, take my holidays away from singapore school holidays....you think PRC are terrible...spotting a singkingporeans from Patong Beach, to Wanchai HK, Ximending Taipei to Penang..Cameron etc... IS NOT THAT DIFFICULT...

JB had always been crowded with Singaporeans.....

I only go during the weekdays & I've noticed more Sporeans doing the same.

In the past it wasn't so crowded. I still remember the older entry point at the Causeway where there were about 6 immigration boothes to handle the crowds entering JB. Then the new CIQ building was opened which tripled, quadrupled,... their ability to handle the crowds & yet you will still find it crowded.

With Spore getting so expensive & with the growing aging population many have the time to go to JB. If one is unemployed in Spore where would one go for cheap meals & entertainment? JB of course.

I hardly had to queue each time I went to JB during weekdays. I believe timing is important.

Maybe your idea of crowds is different from mine & what I call crowded is the norm for you

I usually go in the afternoons. It's less crowded in the mornings but the malls only open at 10am

I decided to go to JB this afternoon, thursday afternoon. Unfortunately it was a bad decision. It was bumper to bumper traffic from the Spore side all the way to the CIQ complex in JB. When I got inside the CIQ buiding all the counters were open but there were long queues at each counter that stretched all the way to the back. It took about 30 minutes to clear immigration & when I took a look back after clearing immigration, the long queues were still there.

Anyone who plans on going this week end better factor in an extra time for delays.

I did see some kids accompanying their parents. However on other weekdays it was not the school holidays & I would see many aunties & uncles from Spore. In the past I would go to JB to avoid the crowds of Spore. However now the crowds of Spore are doing the same

I think this change in the behaviour of Sporeans is permanent. Many Sporeans are now poorer & struggling to survice. Things in JB are much cheaper than in Spore especially with the weak ringgit. In JB the exchange rate was SIN$1 to RM$2.99.
