SINGAPORE: A group of 10 male youths were arrested on Tuesday as suspects in a case of gang robbery that took place early in the morning at Block 20 Jalan Membina.

The youths, aged 12 to 20 years old, are suspected to have assaulted and robbed a 36-year-old man at around 3.30 am on Tuesday.

According to a media statement from the police, the man who was alone, was followed by the suspects to the void deck of the block at Jalan Membina.

The suspects then confronted him and set upon him, and snatched his wallet - which contained personal documents and about S$500 in cash - before fleeing.

Upon receiving the report, officers from the Central Police Division stepped up patrols in the vicinity and conducted spot checks on suspicious persons that fit the descriptions of the suspects.

The officers' efforts paid off when three male youths who were checked were found to resemble the descriptions of some of the suspects involved in the robbery.

The officers then managed to establish the identities of the remaining suspects, who were all rounded up by 7am on Tuesday, three hours after the victim had alerted the police. About S$400 in cash was also recovered from the suspects.

Investigations are in progress. If they are convicted for gang robbery with hurt under the Penal Code, they each face at least five years' imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane.

Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Tan Hung Hooi, commended his officers' well-coordinated follow-up actions, leading to the swift arrests of the suspects. - TODAY
