Teen who took part in brawl involving 15 students at Whitley Secondary gets probation

SINGAPORE - A 17-year-old student who took part in a brawl sparked by a staring incident at Whitley Secondary School two years ago was sentenced to 21 months' probation on Monday (Feb 1).
Pradhif Kumar Rasu, who was 15 at the time, was also ordered to serve 120 hours of community service.
His parents had to place a $5,000 bond to ensure his good behaviour.
He had pleaded guilty to a charge of being part of an unlawful assembly with eight friends, whose common object was to voluntarily cause hurt to seven others.
A count of having consensual sex with a minor, aged 15, was taken into consideration during sentencing.
A district court heard that on July 2014, at about 10.35am, 15 upper secondary students at Whitley Secondary School were having their recess in the school canteen when a staring incident ensued between two groups.
Pradhif Kumar and his male friends aged 15 to 19 were in one group, while the other group comprised of males aged 16 to 20.
An altercation broke out, with both sides pushing members of the other group.
Pradhif Kumar and his friends then started to kick and punch the members of the other group, who traded a few punches before running to the school's parade square.
Pradhif Kumar and his friends chased after them and continued their assault there.
The fight stopped after several school teachers intervened. One of the teachers also called the police.
All 15 students were arrested and brought to Tanglin Police Division for investigations.
Two members of the group which Pradhif Kumar's friends had assaulted sustained minor scratches, while one had a bruised left eye. All three did not seek medical attention.
For rioting, Pradhif Kumar could have been jailed for up to seven years and caned.
