This talk about TJS being over-confrontational or make fake promises is overblown. If TJS becomes President, he will not be so stupid to start fighting PAP every other day. What TJS wants is to be a more pro-active President and not one that sits around and make a few occasional remarks about reserves.

actually to be fair...TCB speech is very much better than TT and TKL...but he lack the fire of TJS..... he definitely wont be able to stand up to lau lee...TCB is too timid...

It will be muddle-headed to believe in this "TCB as unifying figure" thingy. We are far from that. PAP can still throw the whole Workers' Party into jail if they find them too threatening. Singapore is not Thailand where yellow shirt and red shirt can fight for years with no outcome, nor is it USA where Democrat and Republicans can fight forever till the economy crumble. It is only 81 vs 6... wake up... you don't need a "unifying figure"... you need to have more people kicking PAP's arse

Agreed... TCB speaks well and appear dignified... but he is of little use as an Elected President... I will put TJS first, TCB next

For the benefit of the younger generation, this man Johnny Ang was paralysed as an 18-year old in a diving accident. He was very well known for his fighting spirit, doing paintings with his mouth and typing away using a stick in his mouth to push the keys of a typewriter. I don't know how old is he now - had actually forgotten about him but his looks remained the same. He seemed to be in great pain and needed someone keeping pumping air into his lungs via the stomach. Painful to watch. But like some Star Charity show, it can get overdone and becomes a turn-off, which has happened now.
The guy throwing away his walking stick seemed to have rehearsed for the act.
Sigh.
He should have done what he did with Ng Teng Fong Hospital; he should have resigned from PAP to prove that his disagreement with PAP was not a wayang.

Just came back from TCB rally. The rally is not "electrifying" like WP rally or TJS rally. I think maybe 2,000+ people.
Few good speakers but mostly just telling TCB's stories. Nothing exciting there.
TCB spent the last 30 mins on his speech. Basic message, THIS IS NOT A GE and he wants to campaign with dignity commensurate with the Office. That he is the most balanced in the three qualifications needed for the Office, ie, financial knowledge, diplomacy and independent of ANY political party (ie above politics). He does not want the Office to be the "second power center" and he will work within the rules governing the Presidency. Would not involved in day-to-day politics but want an overview. And lastly transparency, thus an annual report from the Office to the people.
My conclusion: TCB is a very principled person. He campaigns this PE based on his beliefs and canvas for votes based on your acceptance of his stands. Not an opportunist in the sense that he target his campaigning for certain group of people. But trying to put across his position and hoping votes will get his messages and decide accordingly.
Whether his message is understood and accepted by voters? We will know in the night of August 27.
