Yes, with the recent armed intrusion by the Filipino gunmen into sabah , Msia ties with the Philippines have taken a big hard knock. This was make worse by the same lethagic reaction by President Aquino who seems unable to make a quick strong reaction and flip flop with regards to Msian request.

Taiwan has also conflict with Manila on the repatriation of taiwanese in Philippines custody as well as disputed islands chains.

The problem in the South China Seas while publicly acknowledge as potential destabilising for the region is more of a friction between the Philippiines (and also Vietnam) with China. While Malaysia claims of islands in the spratley islands overlap with Chinese claims, there were no outright frictions and in fact Malaysia continues to have excellent relations with China and the chinese military. Mahathir for eg is the only leader in SEA who publicly in many occasion stood with china against the China threat theory, earning rebukes from many SEA countries such as Philippines, Vietnam and Spore.

Taiwan had claimed that if their army is considered a "Golden Retriever", the pinoy army if considered a Chihuahua. Taiwan's army is ranked 18th in the world and Pinoy is number 31.

It is obvious who will win.

Who the taiwanist and the hongkies ar? These people are like the sinkies when it comes to maid without them they don't know how to clean up their own house mess.

you obviously dont know anything about taiwan. they are not like sinkies who have lost self reliance and cannot live without maid. taiwan people have some backbone. they would give up maid to stand up against pinoys.

mediacock like to show taiwan parliament fighting to make us laugh at them. but actually if u think (for once) about it, in taiwan politicians have a hard life but the people have a good life. in sg, politicians have a good life but the people have a hard life. so who is laughing now

The country is in a mess.
The police are shitheads ........
need to export their citizens as ...prostitutes ....
For P50, the Filipino’s vote can be bought.
Pay 10x of that and the Filipino can have someone assassinated.........
If you try to collect debt from someone who owes you..... you’ll get yourself killed......

A good summary.
If I may add, they are amongst the most violent people with one of the highest crime/homicide/murder rates in the world.
This is common knowledge , yet one govt reveres them and imports lots of them as foreign talent(many with fake qualifications too).
They will cause a lot social problems in the little dot in future and the people who import them must be held accountable.-including the govt and the businesses that employs them.
I have long avoided shops that employs them(including Guardian,Burger King, Long John Silver, Kenny Rogers).

Don't think Pinoyland will give a hoot about Taiwanese threat. They can always export their labour elsewhere if Taiwan decides to freeze labour import from them.

At most Taiwanese can send they warship to the disputed area but that would be seen as escalating the situation which their godfather USA will not be happy to see.

The card Taiwanese can play here is rather limited.

Hate to say this and saying it for the first time, this guy is quite spineless and indecisive. I've been in Kaohsiung for the past 3 days and seeing Ma's response its really mediocre and without any authority. I'm very disappointed with him now.

pinoy airforce is a joke. with no fighters to its name, the taiwanese only need to station 3-5 f16 on taiping island and can blow the rest of the pinoy airforce off the skies.

Taiwan is somewhat like sinkieland.. she doesn't weld sovereign power and has no representation in the UN. When bullied by others, she can't kpkb too loudly. She can't risk being friendly with China, but also can't depend too much on US like the Japs/Pinoys.

A couple of years ago, a Mainland Chinese guy told me Taiwanese navy actually plays an important role in diffusing naval stand offs in the region between China and Japan/Pinoyland due to their perceived neutrality. And they play this role quite well.

So their naval presence is akin to bubble wrap or packing peanuts --- not very impressive but nevertheless important in maintaining stability in the region.

The Philippines gave in.

TAIPEI (2nd UPDATE) - The Philippines on Wednesday apologised to Taiwan after coastguards shot dead a Taiwanese fisherman sparking tensions that saw Taipei threaten a naval exercise near Philippine waters.

Taiwan foreign minister David Lin told reporters that "the Philippines has voiced deep regret and apology for the incident" after a closed-door meeting with Antonio Basilio, the de facto Philippine ambassador to Taipei.

The Philippine government will send a special envoy to Taiwan to convey his apologies and condolences to the family of 65-year-old fisherman Hung Shih-cheng, who was shot dead on Thursday, Basilio said.

"Chairman (Amadeo) Perez will repeat his deep regret and apology from the people of the Philippines to the people of Taiwan and the family of Mr. Hung for the grief and suffering from his death," Basilio said, adding that the Philippines would provide "financial assistance" to the victim's family.

Perez Jr. is chairman of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) that represents the Philippines' interest in Taiwan.

Taiwan had demanded an apology by midnight Tuesday (1600 GMT), saying that otherwise it would conduct a naval drill in waters near the Philippines. It had also threatened to freeze the sending of Philippine workers to the island.

According to Lin, the two sides agreed to jointly launch an investigation into the incident, which sparked outrage in Taiwan and comes at a time of heightened tensions around the region over rival claims to the nearby South China Sea.

On Monday hundreds of angry fishermen burned Philippine flags and hurled eggs at Manila's de facto embassy in Taipei.

Lin said Taiwanese investigators would fly to Manila Thursday while their Filipino counterparts travel to Taiwan to inspect the fishing vessel and interview three witnesses who were on the boat at the time of the incident.

The two sides also agreed to open fishery talks "as soon as possible" so as to avoid the recurrence of similar incidents.

The state Central News Agency had said the naval exercise would be held Thursday, involving a Kidd-class destroyer, a Perry-class frigate and three coastguard frigates. A number of fighter jets would also be involved in the drill, which would for the first time simulate the Philippines as the enemy.

"The Philippines has made some positive reactions towards our demand," Lin said when asked if his government would still consider sanctions against Manila, adding that the pledges from the Philippine government would need to be further evaluated.

It was not clear from his remarks whether the naval drill would still go ahead.

The Philippine coastguard has admitted firing at one of four Taiwanese fishing vessels it said had strayed into its waters, allegations denied by the victim's son who was with his father and two other sailors on the boat at the time.

Taiwan prosecutor Liu Chia-kai described the incident as "nothing but a slaughter", after examining the boat which he said was hit by more than 50 bullets.

Taiwan at the weekend sent four coastguard and naval vessels to protect its fishermen in waters near the Philippines, while Philippine President Benigno Aquino has called for calm and given assurances of an in-depth investigation.

China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei all have competing claims to parts of the South China Sea.
