Australian police found something absolutely shocking when they raided a warehouse owned by cannabis farmers.

They also found a large number of cannabis plants.

It was revealed that these criminals were not abiding by appropriate health and safety standards - a huge tangle of piggy-backed power cables was unearthed by the shocked officers from the New South Wales police force.

The elaborate electricity system featured power allegedly stolen from a substation and routed through a nest of power boards and cables.

A police spokesman called the cabling "dangerous" and said fires often broke out in so-called "hydro houses".

The estimated the street value of the 653 plants at A$2.2m ($1.6m; £1m).

Two men, aged 53 and 38, were charged with cultivating the plants. The 53-year-old was also charged with stealing electricity.

Images of the outrageous cabling were shared widely on social media.

Both the men were refused bail and are scheduled to appear at Central Local Court on Friday.
