How the fuck can you overturn a Merc? Don't tell me that the Merc sold in S'pore does not have the reinforced roof or roll over safety cage? I though it was one of the safest cars you can buy.

Driver, 21, dies after car overturns on Bukit Timah Road

Man dies of injuries in hospital after car overturns on Bukit Timah Road

A shocking scene greeted road users on Bukit Timah Road early yesterday morning.

A Mercedes Benz had overturned, and the impact was so great that a wheel flew off.

The car's contents, which included women's shoes, clothes, a wine bottle and a stack of receipts and documents, were flung all over the area and on the road just after Coronation Plaza.

Oil leaked from the overturned car and blood was splattered on the ground.

Police later confirmed that a young man was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Mr Fabian Toh, 21, died from his injuries in hospital.

He was driving his mother's silver Mercedes when the accident happened around 6am.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force sent an ambulance, a fire engine, a Red Rhino and a support vehicle to the site.

It is not clear if another vehicle was involved.

A relative said that Mr Toh had gone drinking with his cousins after work.

Mr Toh had worked as a bartender at a karaoke lounge that his mother owns.

The relative said that after the drinking session, Mr Toh's cousins called a valet to pick up his car. They then left.

He said they were later told that an argument apparently took place between the valet and Mr Toh over the level of fuel in the tank.

"He argued with the valet, then got into the car and drove off in a rush," said the relative.

He added that Mr Toh had earlier returned home with his mother after work, but left again.

Mr Toh had taken his mother's car without her knowledge.

The relative said: "She kept calling him (in the morning) when he had not come home. (It was something) she used to do when he was not home by about 7am.

"She is devastated (by the accident)."

He had injuries that indicated that the top of his head had been dragged on some surface, said the relative.

FOUGHT

The relative said: "His friends kept inviting him out for drinks. His girlfriend found out and they fought.

"They even broke up for a while but later reconciled. They were planning to get married and this happened."

Mr Toh and his girlfriend, whom he met through mutual friends, had been dating for three years.

"He was a good and kind man. He could be stubborn (but that was) only when he was drunk," the relative added.

Mr Toh is survived by an 18-year-old brother and his parents, who are in their 50s.

A resident who lives above the row of shophouses nearest to the accident scene told TNPS that she heard a loud screech, followed by a bang.

The 77-year-old resident, who gave her name only as Madam Tan, said: "It was very loud. I thought a car could have fallen into the ditch as it had happened before."

She went down to take a look when she heard the ambulance siren.

"I saw officers pulling the victim out from under the wreck and carrying him into a waiting ambulance," she said.

A worker at a petrol station further down the road said she heard a loud sound but went out only later to check what had happened.

She said she saw a woman dressed in a blue outfit crying bitterly as she was using her mobile phone.

Mr Toh's relative said it could have been the young man's aunt.

even a container truck also can overturn, nothing to do with the built of the car. its the physics of dangerous driving, speeding, too wide angle, momentum, impact

Sports sedan like Mercs is build wider and lower to the ground with big wide tires. Not so easy to overturn considering it has traction control, limited slip differential, ABS, etc. Even once overturn, the safety features should protect occupant.
