Speaker : This is the best debate in my 26 years ?!

I happen to catch the Parliamentary debate segment after the Friday news bulletin.

This was the last day, & Speaker Abdullah Tarmugi rose to say words to this effect:- In his 26 years (as MP or Speaker?), this session was the best for him - quality debates & good arguments.

I was lost for words. To my mind, one of the worst if not the worst - whereby a sitting Prime Minister did not even rise to the mike at all, in the rare occasion he was present..

And with inane remarks from deaf frogs to 'how you look young' questions & 'food museum' suggestions to 'affairs unavoidable for the successful' quips - it is no wonder Abdullah was replaced from his role as Miinister for Malay/Muslim Affairs & kicked upstairs as Speaker.

Even ex-ISD SPH fugly Chua Mui Hoon, described today in ST, this year's debate as 'pedestrian' indeed a 'forgettable' one.

Speaker said good, Leader of the House Mah Bow Tan also said good.
Where is the reality check ?

Miss the days of the 80s 'Today in Parliament' ......
if what Abdullah & Mah said is true, all the more NoPorn Lui should get MDA to resurrect the old programme as a showcase of the 3rd Gen Leadership's brilliance.

If the public is not educated, at least they will be entertained & get a small return from their annual RTV summons aka Licence fee.

Classic groupthink. Patting themselves on the back for a job "well done" when probably JC students could put up a better show in asking for accountability in the Government's policies in:

Transport - COE system despite the billions it collects FAILS as a mechanism to control vehicle growth

Economy and Manpower - Foreign immigration issue that sees average Singaporean
worker worse off is the fault of "globalisation" instead of poorly implemented immigration policies

National Service - Schisms of NSmen feeling shafted by PRs and lax immigration resulting in us doing NS and having our economic pie eaten by "hungry" PRC/Indian/ASEAN immigrants

Housing - skyrocketing public housing prices due to demand from PRs and immigrants outstripping supply. How can one monetise the rise in HDB/private property if one only has 1 property?

This country is going to the dogs with the current Government's groupthink. We need diversity in Parliament to represent the rakyat and to bring Singapore back to sanity.

What debate. Abdul has just woken up. How can it be a debate when everything was scripted except those by the opposition and NCMP.
