Security cameras in SG is worse than CCP regime
. Dubbed “Smart Nation”, The move comes as part of its “Lamppost-as-a-Platform” (LaaP) project. As part of the LaaP trial, PAP govt claims it is testing out various kinds of sensors on the lampposts, including cameras that can support advanced backend facial recognition capabilities. These capabilities may be used for performing crowd analytics and supporting follow-up investigation in event of a terror incident."
Other sensors hosted on the lampposts aim to monitor air quality and water levels and to collect data that can assist urban planning such as pedestrian and electric scooter numbers. As with cities such as London and New York, video surveillance is already extensive Singapore, to the point of being ubiquitous. But the use of facial recognition software is concerning, although perhaps no surprise in a place often described as being a “police state”.
Unbiased Police state is OK but sending such forces to lock you up in IMH or Woodbridge is really questionable.
All those who abused the powers will be one day answerable in PUBLC in due time.
