Hmm Jolovan Wham wants to lobby to enact laws to ensure better protection for foreign domestic maids.

But all his ramblings about how these maids are lacking of freedom to do anything they want. What kind of protection does he actually want for these maids?

Same protection for Singaporeans workers to the maids? 14 days leave? 5 days work week? 4 months maternity leaves? Freedom to do whatever they want without being morally policed by their employers?

Like that, what is the point of hiring a domestic maid??

Serfs are not entitled to annual leave. If they are not happy, they can always work in Thailand peeling shrimps 24/7 like the slaves they truly are.

Scores of maids whose employers fucked off overseas for new year were out hooking at orchard, lots of ads by these putas in craigslist etc....they dint need no protection.

Domestic maids should not exist at all. The task should be replaced by working hours cleaners or hourly rated cleaners/home helper. Who was the sick fucker who approved maid employment ?

If they are employed and working in Singapore, should be entitled to 13th Month pay as well!

Cheers!

Some of the maids are given extra money, during birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, Lunar New Year, & a growing number of them are taken on holidays to Malaysia , even China..Japan, HK etc...wtf these people are advocating?

If you do an oral survey with them, many would rather take 2 days a month off or even 1 day only, after tasting freedom of $xxx.xx 4 days off, for they spend more than they make & Singapore is a very expensive place...

They are suppose to be given $xxx.xx per month, 4 weekend off....that means they have 4 days leave per month, in a year, it would be 4 x 12 = 48 days leave....which employer in Singapore will give anyone of us 48 days leave a year...even the employment act does not specific that for Singapore workers...

Just treat them fairly, squarely & well....that is more than enough.....have a 'give & take' attitude...

Agreed. FDWs in Sinngapore are well taken care off. And going by some reports of maid abuse cases (quite rare here), I think FDWs have a good deal working in Singapore (compared to HK, English is spoken widely.) As long as we treat them as human beings, it is better for them here than even in their home town. Recently, I was in the process of hiring a sales engineer in Jakarta, and going by their wage rates, there, FDWs here earn more than fresh uni grads there. My in-law did a holiday trip to Oz last year, and their lucky maid got to go along too! Meals, airfare, hotel - all paid for. Just have to help carry some luggage, that's all!

Cheers!

This concept of employing "servants" has been a long tradition in this part of the world. Rich families employ less well-endowed blokes to help out in domestic chores. That is why boys from rich homes in Singapore are hopeless at housework, unable even to cook a meal for themselves, iron clothes, or even fold their shirts and pants.

Cheers!

Time to start a "comfort men" business to serve these maids during their off days. At the moment the Bangla and Indian FTs have cornered this market.

The FDW these days are smarter than those say...15 - 20 years ago, not to mention say 5 years back....many of them, even the Myanmar's have Facebook page, uses WhatsApp, Line,,web chat & whatever....

They are very well informed & technologically advanced too...some even have tablets etc...my point is, the minority of those that are bullied, have issues with themselves like being a pariah with their own people etc...if not, the support amongst themselves are amazing.....they have the embassies emergency contact numbers, which are 24 hrs, MOM & your 'dirty laundry'...is instantaneously spread by social media..

So, don't get bluffed by all these , migrant workers support etc.....the FDW's plus the FW's here have better support than any of local Singapore workers...

If FDW want all the regular perks of normal employees eg 14 days leave, MCs, medical/dental benefits etc. Then perhaps it is time for SINKIE employers to charge FDW market rates for room rentals, food, electricity/water for staying in the boss's home 24/7!

FDWs should stay out then and report for work at 0800hours sharp, 1 hour lunch break at own expense, pay for their own transport and knock off work at 1700hrs for a total of a 40 hour work week. They have to pay for their own room rentals, if kena pregnant by FT BF it is not employer's fault and their WP are cancelled with deportation within 24 hrs.
