On 7 October 2015 , SGH (Singapore General Hospital) said that they will take responsibility and pay for the treatments needed by infected patients but they didn’t announce that the screening would be provided for free for infected patients. This could result in the patient’s family having to pay a huge amount of screening fees as it is not waived off by SGH. SGH are panicking due to this negligence. A daughter of a man whom previously stayed in SGH’s Hepatitis-C infected ward claims that her father needs to pay $108 for re-screening for the virus in his body. In her statement, she also claimed that instead of heading back to SGH for screening, she has suggested for her dad to head down to the nearest community hospital KTPH (khoo teck puat) for the screening and to her surprise, her dad had to wait more than 4 days before he could get a screening done. Similar to SGH, they were also asked to pay a screening fee of S$108 for something that isn’t her dad’s fault to begin with. The daughter of the man also suggested that MOH should have came out with a solution to fix this issue instead of insisting patients to pay first.
