Police have arrested a 28 year-old man who is believed to be involved in a series of theft from vehicle cases in Sembawang, Marsiling and Woodlands Housing Estates.
In these cases, the culprit was believed to have used a master key to gain entry into vehicles where he would steal items such as cash, handphones, cash-cards and other valuables.
Following the reports, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division worked tirelessly to pursue all available leads and managed to establish the identity of the suspect after extensive enquiries. An ambush operation was conducted and the suspect was subsequently arrested along Marsiling Crescent on 30 November 2010 at about 1.00 am . Following his arrest, stolen items such as cashcards, handphones, wallets as well as several types of vehicle master keys were recovered. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in at least 18 cases of theft from vehicle.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 1 December 2010 for the offence of Theft from Vehicle under Section 379 of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries a maximum jail term of three years imprisonment, or with fine or both.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun commended his officers for their excellent investigative work which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
