Serial snatch thief arrested

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 44-year-old man who is believed to be involved in multiple cases of snatch theft targeting elderly women reported in the vicinity of Jurong West, Jurong East and Boon Lay public housing estates.
Between mid Dec 2012 and early January 2013, the police received a total of 5 similar cases whereby the victims, all elderly women had their gold necklaces snatched from their possession by a suspect with the same description.
Based on the commonality of the suspect's description, the victims' profiles and the modus operandi of the cases, officers from the Jurong Police Division conducted extensive investigative probes and exhaustive ground enquiries to establish the identity of the suspect.
He was subsequently arrested around Boon Lay housing estate on Jan 7 at 4pm.
If found guilty he can be imprisoned up to seven years and faces possible canning.
