SINGAPORE: Two opposition parties have declared their stand not to contest the Hougang by-election.

In a statement, the Secretary-General of the National Solidarity Party (NSP) Hazel Poa says after careful deliberation, the party has decided that it will not be fielding a candidate in the upcoming Hougang by-election.

The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), in a Facebook posting, also reiterated that it will not be fielding a candidate for the Hougang by-election. The party had stated previously that it would not contest the by-election.

or will pap be afraid to know the actual truth and decide to hand the HG SMC to the WP by deliberately "making" a mistake on nomination day and getting its candidate disqualified? so no contest and dont need to embarrass itself..very remote! but nothing can be totally ruled out in politics

I have nothing on SDP at least for this one, but NSP is a joke. Either they did not deliberate carefully the first time before opening their mouths of odour, or give the impression they are now scared off by WP's bid into Tampines.

Never say never. The likelihood od some clown such as Zang GuoYan (the guy with a bird cage in his hand all the time), Tan Jee Say, Thambi or Ahmad showing up and filing his nomination papers at the last minute is very real. After all, it is an SMC and the deposit of $13.5K will not turn these people off. The likelihood of them winning is of course a different matter.

Hougang residents must keep faith in WP.. the YSL saga was just a blip.. Workers Party have been serving them well over the years.. People in Hougang should remember that..

The Shit Times and other papers have been giving more spotlight to Desmond over these last 2 months.. His so called good deeds like giving free hearing aids to the Hougang elderly and the free porridge treat, these are all typical PAP wayang show..
