ILLEGAL PROCESSION
SDP group fined

They were convicted after a rare Govt appeal against their acquittal

FIVE leaders and supporters of the opposition Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) have each been fined either $500 or $600 for taking part in an illegal street procession in 2007. They are SDP chairman Gandhi Ambalam, assistant secretary-general John Tan, central executive committee member Chee Siok Chin and party supporters Yap Keng Ho and Chong Kai Xiong. District Judge John Ng sentenced them on Monday, with Tan, Chee and Chong each fined $500 or five days' jail in default. Gandhi and Yap were each fined $600 or six days' jail in default.

The five applied for time and were given until May 14 to pay the fines. They had faced fines of up to $1,000 each under the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act. Earlier this month, High Court Judge Choo Han Teck allowed a rare appeal by the Government against their acquittal last October by the district court, and convicted the five. He also sent them back to District Judge Ng for sentencing.

It is very sad that the Singapore judiciary is a joke. Judge John Ng acquitted them. PAP not happy and appealed. High court judge overruled Judge John Ng and ruled them guilty. The case must go back to John Ng for sentencing.
This is to embarrass John Ng for not caressing LKY's balls.
Judge John Ng is a good man. Pity that he is in a difficult position.

And he will now always remain a district judge.

In the view of our "unique" local context:
A single person, standing in public on his own may be considered an illegal assembly.
A group of friends walking together is may now be considered a procession.

a group of friends walking together to a football match is not illegal, but for political reason walk to a football field is illegal. It is like a soldier of son of PM promoted in rank and file every year is a clever boy, and soon make a BG, is a boy made by God to be the next PM of Singapore. A bright talent soldier promoted through rank and file is sheer luck.

dont worry SDP foreign donors will pay

i was wondering about this:

WHO WOULD DONATE THRU INTERNET IN THEIR WEBSITE?

the donations from hard-earned peasants would only end up with the gov's pockets.

finally i realise. the DONATION is a convenient channel for chee's foreign boss to do the funds transfer!

initially, these bunch of clowns were acquitted but chee wasn't happy cos then he wouldn't have the fodder to slime sgp.

now they are charged, chee should be very pleased. at least now he thinks he has the "facts" to report to his foreign boss and the international media to slime sgp all over again.

but seriously, these are a bunch of repetitive offenders. they should be fined more.

the prosecutor should appeal about the fine and up it to $2k per clown. but it shouldn't be a problem to them cos their other motive is to check into the changi holiday resorts. that would enhance the nutritous fodder for the foreign media to slime sgp further.

what a bunch of idiots and political clowns!

why do we need foreigners to criticise our own domestic politics? do those foreigners in their own country live a better quality life than ours? do they understand our culture?

if they do not, what gives them the rights to meddle into our own affairs? only chee loves to entice foreigners to slime singapore as though they own part of sngapore.

so wake up your fucking idea when singapore is being slimed by foreigners. do not be misled to behave like a traitor to your own beloved country.

if the donation given to SDP indeed ends up in the govt pockets, than why are SDP members serving jail terms for their conviction instead of opting to pay for fine?

landing themselves in jail is preferred by SDP. in this way, they would hve the theoretical evidence that they were "marked" by gov. this would in turn provide fodder and ammunition to the foreign media to slime sgp.

that is what precisely chee always prefers to go to jail. let see if his loyal followers would accompany him along.

You will ass by the OA army very soon:biggrin::biggrin:

Everyone is entitled to his opinions and views. Unless that person has a personal agenda here or a FAP bootlicker and not in the same wavelength as me.

SDP only has one policy, thats civil disobedience, something which the present ruling party fears so much. Which the PAP r beginning to realize than defamation suits and detention to contain dissent views no longer work anymore.

Thru civil disobedience, SDP is trying to educate the citizens in voicing out their displeasure over the goverment unfavourable policies toward the citizens.

Thru civil disobedience, they r also trying to remove these climate of fear among citizens speaking up against the goverment.

Remove that FEAR first, as long as there is still fear among all us nothing will be change and all policies planning craps can jus be thrown outta window.

P/s: All political parties that runs the country should fear the citizens, instead of the other way round.when PAP stop fearing and vice versa instead, the abuse of power will begins to take its toll on the people.

Jobless migrant workers protest in Singapore again
Fri Feb 27, 2009 2:29pm IST Email | Print | Share| Single Page[-] Text [+]
SINGAPORE (Reuters) - A group of around 100 Bangladeshi migrant workers gathered outside Singapore's labour ministry on Friday, urging the government to give them work and retrieve overdue pay after they were laid off by shipping firms.

Protests are rare in Singapore, where public speeches and demonstrations are banned unless they are approved by the government, or take place at a designated place called Speaker's Corner.

A representative for the Bangladeshi workers said they were promised a monthly salary of at least S$400 and a work permit of 2 years. But with no work or pay for 4 months, they felt they were in danger of being deported.

"We don't want to go back to Bangladesh. We take loan, we cannot pay, we die," said Rahman, who gave up his farming job in Bangladesh and took a loan of S$7000 from money lenders back home to pay an agent fee to work in Singapore.

Fifty workers gathered at the ministry earlier this month.

Local advocacy group Transient Workers Count Too said such gatherings would become more common in Singapore as workers were not being fed enough and were just sitting in dormitories, amid Singapore's worst ever recession.

"The mood is that we are seeing a lot of people coming forward -- hundreds -- they don't have work," said the group's Shelley Thio. "We are going to see a lot more of it -- they are being shortchanged."

Singapore's shipyard, construction and manufacturing industries were once red hot, hiring almost 800,000 migrants in 2007. But as the economy slid into recession last year, demand for labour dived and major projects were cancelled or delayed.

"If developers can't get money to pay construction companies, subcontractors down the line will get affected too," said Chew Chin Hui, who heads a local building firm.
