Released drug smuggler Schapelle Corby has so far obscured her face from the world, with even the Indonesian parole authorities who will be monitoring her given only a brief glimpse.

Corby was released on Monday from Kerobokan Prison in Bali after nine years in jail, and has been keeping her comments to officials brief.

The 36-year-old said nothing to the dozens of reporters screaming questions at her.

Corby cried in the prosecutor's office when asked how she was, saying she felt traumatised by the enormous jostling media pack that had tailed her since her release.

"We asked her about her condition and she once cried, saying she's still in trauma over the journalists," said Agung Bagus Kusimantara, head of the Intelligence Section in Denpasar's Prosecutions Office.

Schapelle Corby's family are relieved the convicted drug smuggler has been released from Kerobokan jail in Bali.

Schapelle's sister, Mercedes, in a brief statement emailed to journalists thanked her sister's supporters.

"We've been waiting almost ten years for this moment - it's very emotional for Schapelle and our family. We are all very relieved and happy," the statement said.

"Thank you for everyone who has been there for us and supported us all these years."

After a frenetic few hours surrounded and chased by press since her release early on Monday morning from Bali's Kerokoban prison, Corby was taken to the luxury Sentosa Seminyak hotel - a far cry from the prison she has called home for the past nine years.

Immediately following her release, she had to fulfil official requirements, going to the prosecutor's office and then to the corrections office, known as Bapas.

She had been in a prison van but she left Bapas in a private car.

There is speculation she left to do an exclusive interview with the Seven Network.

Ketut Artha, the head of Bapas, said even he was allowed only a peek at the famous parolee's face, which she has been hiding from the media with several layers - a sarong, a scarf and a hat.

Mr Artha said Bapas officials met Corby, accompanied by her guarantor, brother-in-law Wayan Widyartha, for about 20 minutes.

"I actually wanted to give her lots of directions, but in the situation it was not possible," he told reporters.

"Lots of questions were unanswered. And when she answered, she only said yes."

Prosecutors got Corby to sign a release letter, stamped three of her fingers and took a photo.

But Mr Artha said she didn't cry in his interview.

"She was not crying, just reluctant to speak," he said.

He advised her to calm herself, be kind and not violate the conditions of her parole, which will see her live with Wayan and her sister Mercedes in Kuta until 2017.

"I got a chance to ask to see her face and she only opened her cover a bit," Mr Artha said.

Earlier at the prison, where Corby rushed into a green prison van through a human tunnel of police, prison boss Farid Junaedi told reporters Corby's condition on Monday morning was "just fine, only a little bit nervous and asking why there's so many people and reporters".

Mr Junaedi said Corby was searched before she was released.

"After she was clear, then she could get out," he said.

"According to the last data, Corby will stay in her sister's (Mercedes) house."

He said she took her make-up and clothes with her as she left.

Earlier, Mr Junaedi said Mercedes didn't join her husband at the jail because of the crush when she visited on Friday.

He said if Corby violated her parole, he would "pull her back".

In Queensland, her mother Rosleigh Rose celebrated Corby's release with champagne and dancing at her home in Loganlea.

An elated Ms Rose was screaming and crying as she watched Corby leave the prison on television.

"It was just beautiful to see my beautiful Schapelle come out from those doors," she told the Seven Network.

"This is for you, my beautiful baby daughter, I love you and I will be with you soon," she said as Schapelle was released.

A family friend, who did not want to be named, told reporters the family was braced for the intense media interest.

"It's going to be worse than Lady Di, everywhere she goes, any time she scratches her bum or anything, someone will have a picture," he said before leaving on his motorbike.

"She'll cope."

Corby's brother hints at lucrative TV deal

The half brother of Schapelle Corby who was with her when she was arrested in 2004 has hinted at a lucrative TV deal for the convicted drug smuggler.

Supporters have gathered at mother Rosleigh Rose's home at Longanlea, south of Brisbane, to celebrate the news that her daughter had been released on parole after more than nine years inside Kerobokan prison.

Half-brother James Kisina, and friends Alyth Jeffers and Katrina Richards, who travelled to Bali with Corby in 2004 when 4.2kg of marijuana was found inside her boogie board bag, came outside to open a bottle of champagne in front of reporters.

Asked what was discussed during their earlier phone call with Corby, Mr Kisina hinted at a lucrative TV deal, saying: "That's an expensive question, man".

The Seven Network has been the only media outlet allowed access to Ms Rose's home.

Ms Rose earlier came outside to open champagne in front of the media, but did not speak.

But Ms Jeffers said Corby had spoken to Ms Rose and other supporters at the party.

"(Corby) said general stuff that she loves her," she said, appearing reluctant to divulge too much of the conversation.

Ms Richards said Corby sounded "in good spirits".

Ms Jeffers said they told Corby: "We love you Schapelle".

She said she wanted to thank Mercedes Corby, who Schapelle will be living with in Bali while she is on parole.

"I'd love to give her a huge hug and thank her, she has done amazing," Ms Jeffers said.

"I don't know anybody who could have lasted this long and fought to the end. She is an amazing woman.

"It says a lot about both their characters - they are both strong, beautiful, staunch women, so you'd better watch out."

Corby's first night spent in Bali luxury

AAP
February 11, 2014, 1:31 am

Schapelle Corby has spent her first night of freedom about 3km from the jail she spent nine years in, but it would have felt a world away.

The convicted drug smuggler spent her first night on parole at the five-star Sentosa Seminyak spa villas at Petitenget, not far from Kerobokan prison.

She walked from jail on Monday with her face covered and her lips sealed, reportedly ready to earn up to $3 million for an exclusive interview with the Seven Network.

It's believed a Seven team was at the luxury villas on Monday but the network won't confirm the deal.

On leaving jail, Corby had to satisfy authorities' formalities first.

At the prosecutor's office, she apparently cried, telling staff she was traumatised by the enormous media presence.

And even the officials who will be in charge of monitoring Corby while on parole were denied the chance to speak to her face-to-face, except only for a brief peek.

When she leaves the plush villa she's now holed up in, reporters will be waiting, with some even camping outside overnight on Monday.
