Lies are sometimes told to little children to protect them from the truth or to make their lives a bit more magical. Do adult women also have to be lied to save them from themselves?
I'm talking about the great mammography deception. We've been told that this test is simple, helps in the detection of breast cancer and saves lives. I've no doubt that many women have been saved by this diagnostic tool.
However, nobody ever talks about the horrible pain that women have to endure while undergoing breast cancer screening. When will grown women be treated as adults by society? I resent being infantilised by the medical fraternity and the media who are shielding women everywhere from discovering that mammograms are pure torture to many and not the simple test they claim they are. I was told by my male ob-gyn that 'it is just a little uncomfortable'.
I would like to hear from other women out there about their mammography experiences. Is it as agonizing for the rest of you?
