KUALA LUMPUR - There will be no sympathy for errant policemen who had tarnished the image of the force, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

He was referring to the three policemen who were charged with raping an Indonesian and allegedly forcing her to perform oral sex.

Hishammuddin hoped that this case would not hamper the good ties between Malaysia and Indonesia.

"This is an unforgivable and despicable act. What is important is that we are transparent (in handling the issue) and ensure the errant ones are punished," he told reporters after launching the Barisan Nasional Youth Job Fair here yesterday.

On Friday, the three policemen - Syahiran Romli, 21, Nik Sin Mat Lazin, 33, and Remmy Dana, 25 - pleaded not guilty in the Butterworth Sessions Court to raping and forcing the Indonesian woman to perform oral sex on them at the Prai police station barracks. The rape allegedly occurred between 6.40am and 7.30am on Nov 9.

Hishammuddin also hit out at calls from certain quarters that he quit his ministerial post to take responsibility over the incident, pointing out the three were already facing the law.

"What else can we do? This is our country's system," he added.

Asked if there was a need to set up the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) in view of cases involving policemen who broke the law, he said there was no formula that could solve all problems.
