RM70,000 worth of pirated DVDs seized
IPOH: About RM70,000 worth of pirated digital video discs (DVDs) which were declared as “spare parts” were seized from a courier company here.
The Perak Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Cooperatives Affairs Department raided the company at 6.45am and seized 6,908 DVDs with a street value of RM69,080.
Department assistant director Zulkefli Yaacob said his men found the DVDs packed in 10 boxes.
Seized items: Officers going through the discs at the courier company in Medan Istana, Ipoh yesterday.
“To avoid detection, they declared the products as spare parts,” he told reporters, adding that the swoop came about after a tip-off.
Based on the consignment note, the DVDs were meant to be divided and sent to five different addresses in Ipoh.
“We will be investigating the said premises and the courier company,” he added. Initial investigations shows the consignment was sent here from Puchong, Selangor using cash.
This is the first such case detected by the department in which a courier company was used to send pirated discs.
