Retrenchment hits me

hi hyom, nice to see you here! 1st of all, please excuse me for putting up your link w/o your permission. hope that you don't mind!

No problem at all. You did provide the link. But even if you did not, I am not SPH and will not sue you like what they did to Yahoo:smile: I actually felt it was a compliment that someone would bother to share it with others.

secondly, i know how you feel as my previous experience was worse. i was in ST Electronics consortium then. My jealous colleague with link to LKY play bastard causing hell for me at work. I was forced to resign as i was facing extreme stress and i was very unhappy. If you do not know, his name is ho kum hean, typical lky's crony with serious integrity problem. don't be deceived by his look!
i have went to see my MP and even wrote to LKY before but nothing was done. Apparently, lky's cronies is more important in status than a lowly peasant like me. till today, i am thinking of how to mess them up if i have the opportunity. initially, i thought that things will be ok after looking for other jobs, but i was thrown dozen of suspicious questions at interviews, how am i supposed to tell them the truth

So sorry to hear what happened. I see that both of us are in the same industry. Not sure if it is easy for you to find similar jobs in this declining industry now. As long as you are relatively young (20s up to mid 30s), it shouldn't be a big problem. You got balls to put that person's name on the internet. Since Sammyboy forum is one of the most widely read forums in Singapore, you have already messed him up. The next time prospective employers check on him, they will find this post when they google his name. Maybe forgive him lah. Just take the name away.

today, i am a relief cabby and doing some small biz to sustain. I did try trading but i think inorder to trade you have to be the top 10% to make money.

Certainly true. If most people can make lots of money from trading, very few people will be left to do the real, useful work in the economy. Same thing is true for the property markets. One thing good that will come out from the bursting of the property bubble is that more people will focus their efforts on doing their day job well rather than on speculative activities.

It is actually dangerous for retrenched people to depend on the financial market. Their psychology is weakened and they will play tricks on their minds. I don't advise this for most people.

Krafty,

If you are really driving taxi and thinking of making extra cash, try selling some stuff at ebay, go low margin but high turn to cover your daily rental. Since you drive taxi, can arrange a standard time and place for pickup daily.

hullo, it's not alright to share!:o:eek::biggrin:

ebay you don't get immediate payment, driving taxi you get paid immediately.

thanks for your understanding, cheers!
talking about yahoo and sph, if i remember correctly, yahoo probably incur the wrath of sph by having articles a bit anti-establishment(especialyy suring the times of election), and in order to "angkat" their masters, sph use the excuse of drop in revenue to file a lawsuit against yahoo. this may be the real reason!

yes, i have an honours in EEE but i branched into IT and railway. i have no qualms about speaking the truth against lky's cronies even they want to persecute me, so be it! i have already thought over that rather than keeping silent about what had happened, make it known to the whole internet world what kind of pple are circling around lky? yucks...

don't be amused,:o i learnt my trading skills thru horse racing trading years ago. i did a lot of research, play around with the 3rd party betfair trading software. the analogy is about the same if you can apply what you learnt in horse racing to your trading in financial market. except the difference is that finance market is more complex. and adding-on, you are actually waging your bet between 2 groups of pple who are the buyers and sellers. i seen a lot of advertisments asking pple to attend this and that investment seminar, it's totally useless and more like conning pple to put money in the market, so that there is more money for the big or experienced players to "fry" and make money out of them.

so long for now and best regards...

Actually, the fellow who sabo you did not look like some big-shot on Linked-in. He is a middle-class senior engineer. Maybe he is not related to the mighty old man. You got background in railway? Please join SMRT and save our country. How to function with a transport infrastructure like that?

A lot of good traders/investors got training from gambling games like poker and blackjack. So, when you say you got a headstart from horse-racing, it is not surprising at all. As long as the odds in the game is in favor to you, playing the game can be profitable. The financial markets can be profitable because the odds can be in favor of the player depending on his skills. For casinos, the odds are always stacked against the player because the casinos set the house rules. So, if a person loves his money, don't visit the casinos.

Smart of you not to spend money on trading/investment courses. Because this game is so fun and profitable, those who can will do it on their own. Those who can't will teach mainly because they earn more money teaching than actually doing it.

Damn and everytime I missed the boat. Everytime there is 1 of these exercises at my place of work I would make it known to my boss that I will sacrifice myself and everytime it won't be me. Now that I am retired I have no chance totaste the feeling of being retrenched :(

yes, i agree that he doesn't look like big shot but his father is. in GLC like ST, they have selected few to look after the organisation, to prevent cock-ups and so on. he ever use lky's name to intimidate me. his bro is a pilot, his father look like an ex-cop. and the times we knew each other, the whole family is well taken care of. my senses tell me that he is related somehow. you are a wise and smart guy, you should know what i mean when i said senses can tell you if this is a good or bad guy after talking to him.
talking about smrt, years ago, i was shortlisted for interview, all was well and as usual i fumbled when they asked me why i left the ST consortium. how do you expect me to tell the truth that i was being bullied and intimidated by lky's cronies. i felt very humiliated somehow like i am being interrogated like a criminal.

another thing that i noticed is that there is some form of manipulation going on in certain stocks. I also consulted my banking analyst friend and he shared the same sentiment. if you are a multi-millionaire or billionaire, the fastest way to make money will be manipulating the stocks prices, inflating the stocks and sell them later for profits. my conclusion is that stock markets is a rich man's game. it's ok to keep some worthy blue-chip stocks but not trading on a daily basis. that's what i think or i may be wrong.

Same here. There's just an empty feeling for me about this too.
