SINGAPORE - The police will be charging on Saturday (July 3) a man who allegedly shouted racist remarks and attacked a university student at East Coast Park on Friday morning.
In a statement on Saturday morning, the police said the 33-year-old Singaporean will be charged for the offence of public nuisance, with "a view to seek an order from the court to remand the man for psychiatric assessment".
At 1.50am on Friday, the police received a call about the incident at East Coast Park Carpark F2.
The police said preliminary investigations revealed that a man allegedly shouted racist remarks against two different groups of Chinese men and assaulted one of them.
When officers arrived, the suspect was no longer at the scene but was later arrested for the offence of public nuisance when the Singaporean Indian's identity was established.
A 21-year-old man was subsequently taken to Singapore General Hospital while conscious and was not hospitalised.

On Friday, Madam Eileen Lee told The Straits Times that her 21-year-old son, who is a first year undergraduate at a local university, was punched and kicked by the 33-year-old.
The housewife in her 50s said the man was not provoked and directed racist remarks at her son and his two friends.
If found guilty of public nuisance, the 33-year-old can be imprisoned for up to three months, or a fine of up to $2,000 or both.
He will also be investigated for the offence of uttering words with deliberate intent to wound the racial feelings of a person, voluntarily causing hurt, and intentional harassment.
Those convicted of uttering words with deliberate intent to wound anyone's racial feelings can be jailed for up to three years, fined a maximum of $5,000 or both.
Anyone found guilty of intentional harassment may be imprisoned for up to six months, fined $5,000, or both.
"The Police will take strong action against those who commit acts that harm racial harmony in Singapore," said the statement.

A 33-year-old Singaporean Indian will be charged in court for the offence of public nuisance following his involvement in an attack at East Coast Park.

In a press release on July 3, the police said they will be charging the man, with a view to seek an order from the court to remand the man for psychiatric assessment.

What happened
The police said that they received a call for assistance at Carpark F2 of East Coast Park on July 2, at 1:50am.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a man allegedly shouted racist remarks against two different groups of Chinese men and assaulted one of them.

Speaking to Mothership, the mother of the 21-year-old man, Teo, who had been attacked and verbally abused by the suspect, said that it was the first time her son had experienced such an unprovoked attack.

Teo, a first-year undergraduate at a local university, had been night cycling with three other friends and was just about to head home when the incident happened.

As they were loading their bicycles onto a van, they heard the man hurling vulgarities at them, calling them "Chinese dogs" and asking them to "go back to China".

Teo subsequently suffered two punches on his face, and was kicked in his abdomen when he approached the man to ask him to stop and leave them alone.

Teo's mother added that a police report was made and the aggressor left about five minutes before the arrival of the police.

In the press release, the police confirmed that when officers arrived, the suspect was no longer at the scene.

They added that a 21-year-old man was conveyed to the hospital in a conscious state, and was given outpatient treatment.

Arrest
The police said the 33-year-old man was subsequently identified and arrested through investigations.

The man will also be investigated for the offence of uttering words with deliberate intent to wound the racial feelings of any person, voluntarily causing hurt and intentional harassment.

The offence of public nuisance carries an imprisonment term of up to three months, a fine of up to S$2,000, or both.

The offence of uttering words with deliberate intent to wound the racial feelings of any person carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine of up to S$5,000, or both.

Those found guilty of voluntarily causing hurt can be jailed up to three years, fined up to S$5,000, or both.

Those convicted of intentionally causing harassment can be jailed up to six months, fined up to S$5,000, or both.

The police said that it will take "strong action against those who commit acts that harm racial harmony in Singapore".

SINGAPORE - A 33-year-old man was charged on Saturday (July 3) after an incident at East Coast Park where he is said to have uttered racist remarks and attacked a university student.
Mohamad Aris Anwar Ali was charged with one count of public nuisance. If found guilty, he can be fined up to $1,000.
Aris allegedly punched and kicked university student Mr Keane Teo Yong Kai, 21, at about 1.50am on Friday. He is also said to have used vulgarities and directed a racist slur at one Mr Sebastain Wong Zhi Xian.
The charge sheet does not say how the two supposed victims are related to each other.
The alleged incident happened at East Coast Park’s F2 carpark after Mr Teo and his friends loaded their bicycles into a van. They had intended to spend the night cycling but cut short their outing after one of the bikes had a flat tyre.
In a statement on Saturday morning, the police said they will seek an order from the court to remand the man for psychiatric assessment.

The police added that they will take “strong action against those who commit acts that harm racial harmony in Singapore”.

I think they were smart, did not want to give the perpetrator (who is obviously from a minority race), the chance to cry foul and play the victim.

On the other hand, If they had gone berserk on him, they will then need to pull his corpse into the van and find a good secluded spot to bury him. Too much work lah.
Ya as smart as you @Cottonmouth clone hide in rat hole act garang to bully woman while timid like mouse infront of your own gender.

SBS No.9 bus PRC lady driver not willingly to help a handicapped man to get into the bus.

Xenophobic and racist: the person who posted the video called the driver PRC. The person who posted the video could have just refer to the driver as the bus driver, there is no need to single out her nationality and her gender.
Entitled m&ds
In the video, the m&d scolded the bus driver for being stupid. Oh, so m&ds are very clever....

Ultimately, it is the fault of SBS for hiring drivers who are not able to speak English.
If SBS is unable to hire English-speaking drivers, then SBS should arrange for English classes for these employees.
