You need a certain type of candidate who can face the brink of defeat. Like all other categories, there are good and bad ones from this type. The good ones can only be attracted by a passionate and exciting platform which can only be fulfilled by an opposition party. Chen SM, Png, Lilian, all came in prepared to lose that explains their passionate disposition.

PAP is stuck without the good ones from this type because it can never be passionate and exciting. To fill the vacancies, it has to take the bad ones, who are the highly-qualified ego desperados and eccentrics hoping to be fielded in a better place down the road rather than turn down any opportunity.

After hearing out Lye and Pillai, I think the next PAP Aljunied team in 2016 will be a laughing stock full of Koh Poh Koon type of weird comments like $11.50 chopsticks.

hahaha....i remembered vividly on the night of GE2011 polling day, a wise man posted that a few GRCs had fallen to the opps....
i almost treated him as God for forecasting the results but then just as quickly.....it became clear that he was bull shitting.....

The best chance of winning tampines is GE2011 but some wise guy had to screwed it. I don't think it is possible now.

PAP regarded Punggol East as having a good chance of winning. KPK was fielded based on that expectation. If even for what is deemed a safe ward, you have to field someone as bland as KPK, can you imagine who will be willing to stand in Aljunied or East Coast?

To attract candidates, the PAP must deepen its cronyistic practices to assure participants of material benefit even if they don't get elected. This means forever being regressive rather than progressive.

The PAP team in Aljunied might comprise of retiring ministers and ex-ministers. This way, if they lose, the loss to PAP is minimal since they are retiring anyway. If they win, they just serve 1 term and hand over to some other candidates the next time around.

This would appear to be the only viable PAP strategy. If they put in 5 unknown candidates (like the Eric Low or Sitoh Yih Pin types) they will lose by a landslide.
