SINGAPORE: All Neighbourhood Police Centres (NPCs) in Singapore are to be re-organised under the new Community Policy System (COPS) by 2015.
With the move, all NPCs in Singapore will be equipped with a Crime Strike Force and a Community Liaison and Preparedness Unit.
The two units will serve to enhance the NPCs' capabilities in crime-fighting and community engagement.
Previously, dedicated crime-fighting capabilities were concentrated in the hands of the six Land Division Headquarters in Singapore.
The changes are meant to bring the police's crime-fighting capabilities closer to local communities.
Chair of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Home Affairs and Law Hri Kumar Nair announced the island-wide roll-out of COPS on Monday at the opening of a seminar on community policy strategies.
This follows the adopting of the new COPs model in the Tampines and Bukit Merah East NPCs in May this year.
